Do the Longhorns have a website like volnation? I was just curious to read what their fans are saying about Wilcox and the DC job. I glanced but couldn't find a fan site like ours.

Hornsfans is a terrible site.

Try orangebloods.com, shaggybevo.com or the sister site to here, insidetexas.com. The last one is by far the best, but things tend to stick to the members only area.

FWIW, we understand the instability of a coaching staff. We've had 4 or 5 DCs in the past decade.

If Wilcox leaves, make LT DC and bring Big Al Wilson as new LB coach!!!!

I like Big Al, but I feel there are better coaches out there and probably people higher up on the list to take over LB coaching job. Isn't Peter Sirmon an assistant here? Or will he follow his fellow duck (Wilcox) to Texas if he goes?

Their Scout site is useless. There is zero mention of wilcox and no one even posts in the members forum LOL

All of the scout.com reporters and most of the users moved over to insidetexas.com (the ESPN site). And you're right, shaggybevo is a little nuts over there. You also can keep any eye out on recruitocosm.com. Jesus Shuttlesworth tends to jump quick at something, but he's not been wrong too often!

Bottom line is, a lot of misinformation has gone out in the past week. Sources close to the program seem to think it was a mole hunt of sorts. It may be tough to keep under wraps, but I think Mack Brown doesn't want anything official until after a team's bowl game.

I don't believe Wilcox will leave this year. To be honest, his defense wasn't all that great this year (mostly due to lack of personnel) and I'm sure he'll want to stick around the SEC for a couple of years. Besides, after this season, what makes Texas such an appealing job? I read somewhere that TX might be in some trouble over something....

Ah, yes, csprig9 started this thread.

Texas is considered a "top 5" job, this past season was just plain nuts. 11 ten win seasons in a row with two MNC appearances and another 2 BCS Bowl appearances makes it appealing I would say. Not to mention the chance to live in Austin.

I understand your success the last decade, but just like THE REAL UT had a downturn this last decade, THE OTHER UT is at the start of thiers.... Austin is a nice city and I have had fun on Lake Travis, but it's not exactly Paris or Rome, like you would have everyone believe...

Texas is where Tennessee was in the early-mid 00s, and Mack Brown is the second coming of Phil Fulmer. We've been there, done that and realize it isn't much fun.

Learn some history UTjr. It might serve you well so you don't start wading onto somebody else's board looking like a dumb@$$.

The Latest from Bobby Burton this morning:

Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox is the latest name to be put under the microscope for the possible defensive coordinator role at Texas.

Hookem.com spoke to a member of the Tennessee staff early this morning for the very latest.

I think it’s best to put it in a Q&A format.

Q: Is Texas legitimately interested in Justin Wilcox?

A: “I know Mack (Brown) called Derrick (Dooley) about him (Justin Wilcox),” the coach said.

Q: Would Wilcox decide to go to Texas if offered?

A: “I don’t know. JW plays it close to the vest. You know, we’re all recruiting him to stay.”

Q: Do you know if Wilcox and Brown are expected to meet?

A: “We have practice the next five days so I don’t know if they could do that.”

Q: What about a timeline for any sort of decision?

A: “With the dead period, I don’t know why there would be any rush. We’ve got a game coming up, we’ve got practice.”

Q: Why would he take the Texas job?

A: “It’s Texas. I mean, you’re talking about one of the top two or three jobs there is. That (Texas) is one of those stops that can be on your resume for life.”

Q: Is there a reason he wouldn’t take the job?

A: “If I were him, I think he’d probably be wondering who they’re going to hire on offense. Will (Muschamp) didn’t have a bad defense this year.”

Q: What type of coach is he?

A: “He’s real cerebral and energetic. I mean, he knows what he wants the guys to do. He talks to them like a mentor. He’s not a barker.”

Q: Is he a guy who is a future head coach somewhere?

A: “Absolutely. I think that’s what Texas really gives him a shot at. I think he’s a future head coach in college or the pros. He has that kind of mentality."

We’ll continue to see what we can dig up on Wilcox as the process moves forward.

**

We mentioned yesterday that it appears that Marcus Tubbs has been activated to be an “on-the-road” assistant coach.

But we have yet to confirm with anyone other than Christian Westerman’s dad, who said Tubbs attended Westerman’s state championship game.

**

We are keeping an eye on possible developments with Brandon Alexander, the Brenham defensive end.

Oscar Giles went by the school last week and discussed a possible scholarship offer and an official visit to Texas for Jan. 21.

Alexander has not spoken about the situation publicly since last week.

I haven't liked a single message board outside of volnation... call me biased, but they all suck

Yeah, i agree completely. Volnation is by far the best message board in sports. It seems like on all the other sites there are way too many fans of other teams for some odd reason.

In what way am I looking like a dumba$$? The early-mid 00s? You had TWO double digit win seasons in a row. Other than that, you had FOUR during the whole decade.

texhorns98, you would be best served just ignoring posters like that. Most of the posters here are very intelligent and others just like to pick fights and sound tough.

National Title in 98. On the verge of playing for one in around 02. Numerous number 1 recruiting classes.

A coach who decided to coast. A losing season in 05. A few decent seasons following that, but a HC that had no real coaching answers. Another losing season in 08.

Then the bottom dropped out.

Mack wants to coast and be a figure head. He doesn't want to do any heavy lifting. He wants to hang with the boosters and cash his $5 million checks. When the head coach loses his hunger, the whole program starves.

I live in Texas and I see what is going on. The days of Mackovic aren't that far away my friend. TCU now has the best program in the state, and f'ing Baylor and A&M have surpassed the Unicorns.
