On ESPN Insider:

From Justin in Nashville: Not that I miss Lane Kiffin because I certainly don't, but am I wrong for thinking we've got the wrong guy in Derek Dooley? Do we have even a 50-50 shot of winning seven games this fall?

Dooley certainly has a good pedigree -- of course so does Kiffin. Still, it's not as if Dooley arrived with a great record from his days at La. Tech. If you're a UT fan, would you rather have Kevin Sumlin as your coach?

I do like some of the staffing hires Dooley made, especially bringing on Bennie Wylie, the old Texas Tech strength coach. That's always a key role, but I think it's even more so when you're talking about a program that has had three different coaching changes in roughly 18 months. Another key for Dooley was retaining Jim Chaney, the offensive coordinator. Chaney is both a well-respected offensive mind and a strong recruiter.

As for this season, I'd take the under on the seven-win total. The O-line is all new, there is a new QB and the defense doesn't have great depth. Expecting more than six wins this fall would be overly optimistic I think.

Not really. I wouldn't say we'll have better than a 25% chance of winning any of the SEC games other than Vandy and possibly UK. I don't lay that all at the feet of CDD, I haven't liked the hire from the beginning, but it wouldn't have been much better if Kiffin had stayed. We all known for a while that 2010 was going to be a rough year regardless of the coach. We're just too young and lack depth at some of the most critical positions.

I'm sick and tired of people talking bout Dooley's record coming in to UT.
Dooley 17-20
Kiffin 5-15
Which one looks better!!!!!! So people GET over the record issue.

Here we go again.

5-15 with the NFL's most dysfunctional franchise >>>>>>>> 17-20 in the second weakest conference in college football

once and for all, would you let him coach the season and see what happens ? you might just be surprised with what he can do in an enviroment he has at ut !! the season is still 11 weeks Away and were already running him out of town !! let it be !!!:dance2::good!:

I wasn't necessarily trying to rip DD in my earlier post. I had stated that it didn't matter who the coach was this year, we were going to struggle due to lack of depth at key positions. I was only responding to the guy who compared LK and DD's records at face value, and pointed out the LK had a much tougher task to win at all with the Raiders. Other than Boise St, the WAC is a cakewalk.

All I'm saying is Dooley can coach regardless of the record. He coached under Saban for 7yrs 5 for lsu 2 for dolphins. But everybody already knows that my point is that Saban would not keep you around if you can't coach plus Saban thought enough about Dooley to take him to the nfl. I think Dooley is going to do a great here. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!

Awesome, another Dooley sucks thread. Cant get enough of this garbage. Did you come up with this idea on your own? Was it the thousand other threads you seen before this? Just thought it needed another beat down? Just curious.

Give up defending your thoughts here, no matter what you say someone will say "FOUL" and argue. No one is happy right now and if DD does great then then one side can say I told ya. If DD does bad then the other side can say I told ya. as for me I'll drink my beers watch The VOLS, wins or losses, and scream the head for them. I love to watch my team no matter whats happens GOOOOOOOOOOOOO VOLS!!!!

not angry with you it's just half the people already hate cdd and the season isn't even here !! is just possible we may have found a diamond in the rough. i believe i thought this 5 years ago when a coach by the name of bruce pearl was hired!! i thought then who? i'll admit this season will be rough but 2011? it will be much better !!:dance2:

You have a point if all their games were conference games... but 4 of those games per year are better opponents not because of Dooley either. So quite honestly if you arent going to mentioned his OOC schedule and give La Tech credit for that then dont mention the Raiders being a less than desirable destination... its poor taste to blatantly leave that out because it takes away from your argument. imo.

Because it's not entirely true. I realize it's rough when you have to go against the likes of college football powerhouses like Army, Navy, Central Arkansas, Nicholls St. and Southeastern Louisiana. Yes, I know they played both Auburn and LSU while DD was there, but they weren't playing all their OOC games against top 25 teams like you make it sound.

Your right! I reacted to quickly didn't mean no harm in it.. We all are vol fans we should be proud of our team win or lose or even who the coach is. Yes do to the lack of depth and schedule 2010 going to be rough!!!
