Note that the Vols are 77th in rush offense and 81st in rush defense. However, it must be noted that with only 4 games, the statistics will be skewed by -11 yards rushing against Florida and giving up 281 yards rushing to Air Force.

In the 3 other games besides Florida, the Vols are averaging 157.0 yards rushing offense per game. That would be good for 47th in the NCAA and 4th in the SEC.

In the 3 other games besides Air Force, the Vols are averaging 103.7 yards rushing defense per game. That would be good for 37th in the NCAA and 5th in the SEC.

Ok LEts just throw out every bad game.

yeah, if you look at Cal's stats minus the Tennessee game, they look like a top 10 team. They've won 3 in a row scoring over 40 points in each game.

It's fun to look at stats, but the only ones that really matter come at the end of the season.

that's sad, what's overall defense, when n the world was the last time we had a bad rush defense? and a bad rush offense?

The reason he does that is because they deviate from the mean so badly, they skew the statistics.

Have you taken a statistics class before?

Ok then take out Coker's run and any other run over 20 yards becasue they are over 2 std deviations from the mean.........

We're going on a game basis. The total rushing yards for the Marshall game were very close to that of 2 of the 3 other games.

In the end, statistics can always be worked in ways to say what you want them to. It is up to the person reading them to determine if the given statistics are valuable or not.

and in reality, while stats are there for a reason, W's and L's are the best stats.

This is football, we aren't trying to predict the average rushing yards for them. We just need to look at the numbers, and realize, we need to get better.

If we went 12-1, and lost to a Memphis, the voters wouldn't just throw the game out because it was a fluke.

true but take out hardesty's 20 yd run vs marshall and his long run vs Cal and he has a very bad average. Counting both of those he only avergages 3.3 yds/carry.

On most teams thats enough to get someone benched, not even considering that Coker is averaging over 10 yds/carry.

RUSHING Avg Long
----------------------------------------------------------------
LaMarcus Coker 10.5 89
Montario Hardesty 3.3 43

stats are stats...but you can tell by watching this team play we have trouble running the ball. and likewise have trouble stopping it. two things that need to be fixed as we get closer to the meat of our SEC schedule.
