Tennesseeans are used to being outmanned and outgunned. I can personally attest to that, I spent last year on a base in the middle of Afghanistan with 71 other americans (2 others were from TN and it was an honor to have them with me because I knew at least 2 people had my back at all times) on Fire Base Cobra. The same base that was on the documentary "inside the green berets." In hard times and troubling times, Tennesseeans rise to the occasion and answer the call. So much is made of 300 spartans that stood against the persian army, but most people dont talk about the 10000 other greeks that stood with them. Not much is made of the 189 men that stood in San Antonio and fought to the last man anymore, Remember the alamo? or the 30,000 other Tennesseeans that went to Texas to stop the Mexican incursion when the call went out for 10,000 men.
Not to compare football to real war, But we find ourselves in the same situation again today, outmanned and outgunned...For those fortunate enough to go to the game, please stay until the end, don't give Alabama the satisfaction of running you out. Show the recruits coming that you will have their back if they choose TN. Show the team that no matter the circumstances, We are Tennessee...and we will fight with everything we have to the last man, no matter the circumstances. Win or Lose today...it is always a great day to be from Tennessee, especially on days like today, where we get to watch our Volunteers defend their home. Go Vols!!!!

I actually have read a lot about the Texas Revolution(I'm really big into history), not to mention being in the military I have a lot of friends from Texas and all of them admit the majority of their state heros from the revolution are from TN..my main point was that when they called for 10,000 Volunteers to go to Texas 30,000 people answered the call. Just saying we go above and beyond the call.

Yeah, but that was in the Mexican War, not the Texas Revolution 10 years prior. Either way, you got your point across

I will leave the game if it gets out of hand, I suspect I will not be alone. No way I'm subjecting myself to Rammer Jammer tonight.

You are correct. Some of us were there during the revolution also if I remember correctly, I should have said kept their independance for them. Regardless we are Bad@%#es. Thank you for clarifying that for me :hi:

I remember back in the day when I was trying to figure out what course I would take in my life, I knew that I wanted to serve in the Army. I got some encouragement to go after an officer's commission, but I still wasn't sure exactly the route to take . . . West Point? ROTC? Enlist and try to get OCS?

Then, one day, someone (can't remember who) brought it to my attention that our stadium was named after General Robert Neyland, a West Point graduate and an officer who served under MacArthur in the Pacific Theater of WWII. That pretty much sealed the deal for me.

Not only are Tennesseans used to fighting against long odds and serving under tough conditions, those from the outside (like Neyland) are often drawn to that fighting spirit. There's a reason we're called "The Volunteer State" and it sure as hell isn't because we're a state full of community organizers! Let's go Vols!

If everyone stayed you could drown out their stupid Rammer Jammer chant. ie. Loud screaming, Singing we dont give a D@mn about the whole state of Alabama, Rocky Top, Down the field, or just chanting We are Tennessee enjoy it while you can. I have always found rammer jammer comical though, I mean seriously, Who chants about a yellow hammer when their team color is Crimson. even if it was the nickname for their confederate soldiers.

"Yellowhammer, Yellowhammer, flicker, flicker!" This was a slur much like the "Tar Heels" name was back then. Then Gen Lee turned it into a source of pride.

yellow hammer:

Inbred people such as those depicted in the film "The Deliverance".
Look at those Yellow Hammers sodomizing canoe riders down by the river!

2. Yellow Hammer 13 up, 17 down

Yellow Hammer:
In rural Kentucky, after men went off to war and died in the 1940's, mothers needed to reproduce and so they had sex with their own sons, having inbreed children. These inbred children had multiple defects, and earned the nickname "Yellow Hammer"
Sandy-"Why does Cleetus have so many mental problems?" Duane-"Oh, you didn't hear? He's a yellow hammer"

another reason to find it comical.

Almost uniformly, I cannot stand rants on this board that invoke jingoistic war/military comparisons, but despite that--the bolded above is absolutely true and in need of being repeated.

Show pride in your Vols, regardless the outcome. Brighter days are ahead.

Hopefully.
