Tennessee wants Jamie Dixon or Jay Wright (reaction to Griff's story)

I hate people and their "no name sources", but some people are telling me that Tennessee goes after Jay Wright. That said, I think he will kindly decline.

I agree. The Wright thing has been around for a long time before Griff wrote it. I actually heard from more than one person that he would even be willing to listen, but I took that to mean he would be down for a free steak and a polite "no, thank you."

...and a raise at Nova.

These guys need to be drug tested. Writing something as dumb as Dixon or Wright should get you fired. Hell i can speculate that we will get Lance Armstrong to coach, but where are the FACTS of reporting. Why would they come here? They WIN more, have better talent, and get paid just as much as we would pay. Not to mention they NCAA doesnt have an anvil hanging over thier heads. These two are the epitomy of lateral move, actually, coming to UT would be a downgrade for either of them. I love Tennessee, but you have to get real.

Why make yourself the laughing stock of the sports world? Oklahoma, Ga Tech, Mizzou, and NC State have quietly began their searches. Instead of letting Pearl take all the flack, you let this goon make a mockery of the entire situation.

I am a Villanova fan, live 10 minutes from campus and went to 6 or 7 games this year. There is a chance, not a big one however that Jay would go to Tennessee let me tell you why...

1. Next year our team is going to stink, really bad, probably not make the tournament bad
2. He does'nt get paid a whole lot compared to the huge names out there.
3. We have uner-achieved big time the last 2 years. I don't think there is any pressure from the higher ups but the way we've finished the last 2 years was dreadful....

Here is why I think he will not leave...

1. Recruiting Base: Probably the best in the country, Philly kids and then the jersey prep schools, St Anthonys, St Patricks, St Benedicts.

2. Our 2012 Recruiting Class; Unbelievable thus far. 3 top 50 players, and we may pull off another one.

3. He does represent the program well. He does and says the right things and recruits his butt off. He is likeable and very media friendly. However, He is a below average X and O coach.

My reaction is: Who doesn't want them? Wanting them and getting are obviously very different.

No coach is going to leave a better basketball school to take over our shattered program. Wait til Richmond is eliminated and pay Chris Mooney whatever he desires, hes by far the best canidate for the job who would have any reason to consider coming here.

Out all the top tier coaches we've discussed, Jay Wright would be last IMO. I'm a fundamentals kind of guy and want a strong Xs, Os type guy. Plus, Nova usually flames out.
I know Pitt has a history of flaming out in the tourney but I'd take Jamie Dixon in a heartbeat. His teams have always played tough defense and I think he's a pretty good Xs and Os guy but neither of these fellas would even think about coming to Knoxville. Pipe dream is an understatment.

what happened to Lawrence Frank ? I still think Tn will go the cheapest route and call it a splash hire and they went after the man they wanted.

Griffith may be doing this to poison the waters. I do not believe this is the actual list.

Im hoping that this is a smokescreen to disguise legitimate talks that are going on with Frank, Buzz Williams or Mooney.

Dixon only makes $1.2 million a year at Pitt. Tennessee could easily double his income, while also providing better facilities. I agree it isn't likely, but more because Hamilton is an idiot and probably focusing on someone like Jeff Lebo or Pat Knight. But I would not write Dixon or Wright off as delusional. If money is the only issue, and it comes to a bidding war, there's no way small athletic departments like Villanova or Pitt can compete.

Jay Wright could possibly double his salary by coming. May not be as much of a pipe dream as you would think.

I still don't see us paying 2.4M a year, to a basketball coach. Dooley only make's 1.8M I think. I just don't see it.
