thoughts? i would like it to happen bc being surrounded by tech fanns is anoying and would love to rub something in there face. I know at one point bruton smith offered $10 mil to each team if they played but it fell through.

It's been talked about here before, and i've always said i'd love the matchup. Two storied programs that aren't too far away to make it a hassle. Seems like a perfect setup.

from wut i heard, it fell through bc bruton wanted them to play at bristol motor speedway but they added a scoreboard in the middle of the track and they said it would be impossible to play on it so it fell apart.unless.....they....play.......around it?:crazy:

Having lived in the Tricities my whole life, the idea of football at BMS thing is pretty funny.

But, an out of conference game against VT is way overdue. That rivalry would become huge. I would much prefer an ACC opponent near the beginning of the schedule over a PAC-10 one.

Say what you want about the strength of the conferences. It's just closer to home.

The fans in a UT vs. VT game would be rabid for both sides, at either stadium.

Rumors abound about why the Bristol Motor Speedway game never happened. I wish it would have...would have been cool and would have been interesting to see what the attendance would have been. Potentially...quite a bit I would imagine.

Bristol wouldn't work. The hard surface/stuff in the middle that they have to remove aren't even the biggest obstacle.

Providing compensation to make up for one team losing a home game (which neither wants to do) is a big issue, as is being able to see the field. Its too far away.

Pfff....

I don't know why I hate Virginia Tech football, but I do. I think it stems from their fans trying to convince other people that blasting 'Enter the Sandman', running out through smoke machines, and the student section jumping up and down is somehow unique and "one of the greatest entrances" in college football.

As you should and so should everybody else ..... VT sucks, end of story.

Most of VT's fans on the national boards are in complete denial about their place in college football history. They think that they are a top 10 program, all time.

Tennessee would have nothing to gain in the way of recruiting. Southwestern Virginia is not a recruiting hotbed like Ohio, the Pacific Northwest, and North Carolina; three areas where the Vols play their next 8-10 years of OOC games. It would be a vicious game though.

Yeah, whenever a Va Tech fan gets a little too big for his britches I start referring to his school as Mike Vick U. That usually shuts them up.

Because Vick wasn't one of the best college QBs ever, right? We don't exactly have much room to say anything with Travis Henry, Leonard Little, ..etc

I would look for this matchup in the next few years at the college kickoff in Atlanta.

i like the matchup, especially if it can be played at bristol. a lot of people give reasons why the game can't be played at the racetrack, yet, the owner of the track is the one who initiated talks about the game being played there, so in my opinion, he obviously believes the obstacles everyone speaks about aren't as big as most believe.

and as for losing a home game, yeah, neither team wants to do that, but if each team is offered enough money, i bet both would jump at the opportunity.

i'm not positive on how many seats bristol has, but i believe someone mentioned 200,000. to have 100,000 ut fans with 100,000 vt fans, the game would have just an insane environment.

i also have nothing against vt, nor do i hate them. lane stadium is gorgeous along with the rest of their campus. it's in the middle of nowhere, but beautiful non the less.

Don't look at just SWVA (which does have good talent), but look at VA as a whole. The Tidewater region is one of the richest football talent sections outside of the states of FL, TX and CA. VT has great success in those areas, which UT has as well, but landing a few more of those guys sure wouldn't hurt either.

After the salary figures of the current staff sink in this game for 10 million might start to look pretty good. The ACC is now a powerhouse of high profile marketable talent, gaurenteed national tv time....more money. Besides as my wife is a vt alum should make for a fun tv night.

oh how i hate virginia tech....

for a team that has never won anything other than the big east once or twice and the overrated Almost College football Conference, it boggles the mind how their fans will swear they are one of the top programs all time.

The school cannot recruit outside its own state other than the occasional player from a bordering state.

0 national championships....and other than beating a bad LSU team in 01 i cant remember the last time they actually beat a team from the SEC

Their stadium is tiny and yet they sweat an open corner designed stadium can be louder than almost twice as many people in Neyland with a closed in circle and upper deck to trap the sound...for a science and engineering school they should be able to figure the math doesnt quite add up on that

nearly all of my friends went to VT and i am surrounded in an area that still things them a football power, oh how id love to shut them up big time

for a program that was independent from the early 60s and only joined the big east in 1990 as still a relatively unknown football program at the time....their fans talk a big game their programs history cant back up

maybe if tech scheduled more high profile out of conference games every year (because they already play in one of the weakest conferences in the country and winning the acc isnt going to get any respect for them from most) every year they play teams like william & mary or VMI or some other I-AA team they have no business playing if they are a "big time program"....im surprised frank beamer hasnt tried to schedule the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind while hes at it, he could swing by on his way to the Newport News and Hampton city jails on his recruiting tour and set that one up.

Virginia Tech is the team i will root against no matter who they play and I would like nothing else than to see UT play them anywhere

Va Tech fans are bigger rednecks than bama fans. I'd prefer to play UNC or UVA.

whoa dude. i don't know about that. i've been to both bama and vt, and i can assure you, bama has WAY more rednecks.

also, vt is a better program than unc or uva, and a game against tech would garner more attention for the public/press.
