Im anxious to see which virginia Tech team shows up. Running and stopping the run will determine who wins this game. TT sure as h**l isnt gonna throw the ball around on our secondary, and im not to sure were gonna be able to throw the ball around either. I am glad that it's a night game and not a "hangover" game lol. go vols!

Dexter McCluster really screwed Tennessee's rush defense numbers.

Curious if VT had any key injuries or issues during the season?

Tennessee was affected by all the LB problems and JJ's absence. Not to mention their offensive numbers would look much better had Cromton played the first half of the season like he did at the end of the season. To put it short, Tennessee is better than the numbers reflect, wondering if the same can be said for VT?

if we play like we played down the stretch we will be ok. Give PawPaw Kiffin a month to study their O and he'll shut em down. IMO we have played the last half of the season like a top 10-15 team, even through the tuff times of the robbery and all that crap. It should be our game to win or lose. If we play like we've been playin....no doubt in my mind...another W!!!!

Same can be said for Bud Foster. A month of him preparing his defense for our O is going to make things tough.

This is my dream matchup, my 2 best friends go to Va Tech and recently said if we played they would beat us by 3 TD's. Now I am a little worried about Tyrod and Williams because our LB's aren't very fast but we can definitely run the rock on them. Bama and GT ran up over 500 yards combined. As good as Bud Foster is which I will admit, Monte Kiffin will find a scheme to stop the only 2 players Vt has.... Plus if u remember Monte coached the Bucs when Vick was on Atlanta, and the key is to keep Tyrod in the pocket and make him throw accurately... In the end my 2 keys are special teams and Crompton... If we can just hang in their w/ special teams and not give up a kick return touchdown, and Crompton plays smart we should win by 10 plus points.

This should be renamed after the official announcement as "The Official UT vs. VTech Pregame Thread" and it will be a long wait till the 31st.

Foster had eight months to prepare for Bama, and they still gave up five hundred yards. No doubt he's a good coach, but the talent isn't there for Va Tech to really stop our offense. They're definitely not in the top tier of the defenses we've faced this year.

Tn will have to figure out how to stop the taylor and williams option/wildcat, b/c u know they gonna do it. Also UT will need to blitz often IMO. I see this being a tough game for us, but it will be fun!

Someone asked if we had any key problems injuries. Well the only really key injury was Darren Evans (Star RB last season) tore his ACL in fall practice. Fortunately Williams has stepped up nicely. Apart from that our most disruptive DT was injured on a very dirty play against GT. He has played a lot since then, but hasn't been as effective. He played well against UVA and should be good to go by the bowl game.

We have been blessed the past 5 years with outstanding LB play, but this year it just fell off a cliff. We are, for the most part, a very good defense, but the drop in LB play keeps this from being a defense that is up to our standards.

I didn't see VT this year at all, or in recent years for that matter. What type of schemes do they run? Option offense? 3-4 or 4-3 defense?, etc. I'll hang up and listen.

Offense is power running oriented with play action pass. We darn near always have a mobile QB.

Defense plays a standard 4-3 and we make no secret that speed is priority #1 on D. We have a history of undersized LBs that run like hell and are very successful at it. (Although this year LB play is down considerably.) We are also known as DB U as we always seem to have an outstanding pair back there and we put so many in the NFL. The DBs are very good as usual, but not in our typical we will dominate you for the entire game fashion. In short the Defense is very good as usual, but not to the just plain unfair level that we hokie fans our used to. Good thing is the offense has made big strides this year.

aye....that picture that keeps coming up. Just a football team blowing off steam during fall practice. I'm a pretty goofy guy I can relate. Just a bunch of guys being silly.
