What makes you think Houston could do better against Oklahoma's schedule than Oklahoma?

One game is just one game. This isn't basketball or baseball where teams play best of 7 series and we find out who is truly the better team.

It's possible Houston simply had a good day that day and Oklahoma a bad one.

What makes him think that? Could it be .....

Houston 33
Oklahoma 23

Crazy to think, I know. But Houston pretty much whipped Oklahoma any way they wanted after a bit of a slow start. Would've been 40-23 had Houston not had a late turnover on the goal line.

I know you typically discount actual on-field performance and results, that's your hallmark. But, after watching that game, coupled with Houston's handling of FSU in their last game of the 2015 season, I think Houston would do quite well with OUs schedule....quite possibly, even better than OU might do.

Finally, how much validity can you give the FPI when one team handles the other team pretty decisively on the field, yet still trails then by TWENTY-TWO spots in their poll? I'd say not much to very little.

Who are these "NegaVols?" Happy go lucky members of the Big Orange Carravan who anonymously vent their fears and frustrations online?

The way the FPI formula works..one game of any outcome will not matter much at all.

It is more a formula for the end of year to see which teams did the best against the strength of their schedule etc..

Like if Houston losses a game to a very low ranked opponent...then it will go back and recalculate and that loss will end up hurting Oklahoma a great deal more then it does now.

In other words..a single game is not enough data for the FPI

Computers don't use emotions or hype to rank teams either.

While acknowledging the reality that all pre- and early season rankings are garbage, I'd rather have human beings watch games and react to them than have math systems try to draw comparisons between multiple events that do not take place in a vacuum.
