Lol Orange. How about we win some games first, I'm all for Tennessee but we did place last in the SEC last year.

I do agree that our team and coaching staff are better than a lot of people think but USA Today pretty much is going off of what they saw produced last year.

I hope the coaches and the players do the talking for themselves come fall and the WV game that we are heavily predicted to lose.

Edit: Although they do have us behind some really crappy teams like North Texas and Army.... Which is slightly frustrating.

Higher than it probably should be after finishing 4-8. Beating the brakes off a ranked West Virginia team would probably move us up a good 20 spots.

The only thing they can go off of is last year.

If they ranked the top 100 teams at the end of last year, where would you put the last place team in the SEC? You would think 66 would actually be high.

Perception of UT will change with how this team plays against WV. WV defense is shaky at best. Expect UT to come out physical and set a tone for the year. WV is soft, expect UT to grind WV with the ground game. People will view UT differently after that game.

They look at very basic stuff like record last season, strength of schedule and starters returning. CJP is worth 2 extra wins over CBJ just on S&C and game day coaching (assuming he is just average).

We still have a very high recruit ranking of returning players who will be better developed and coached.

I say we shouldn't be rated any lower than 38th to start.

I think we will win the first three before we play Florida. I think we beat Florida at home. I think we beat Georgia, because to me, Pruitt is better than Smart, and I’ve said all along. I know, I’m all about Pruitt beating Mullen, Smart, and that South Carolina guy, but I just think Pruitt is a defensive guy that will outsmart these coaches of course, the ranking also has Tennessee behind the non-Power Five likes of Northern Illinois, Arkansas State, Troy, North Texas, Louisiana Tech, Army, Middle Tennessee State and Wyoming, among others.
This is utterly crazy. We would smoke these teams, and Middle Tennessee? Yea right. I think we should be in the top 25 right now, because I think we have a team that is there. Start us out at 25, and watch what happens. :good!:

If UT beats WVU, UF, UGA, and USCe then it doesn't matter where they start out ranked.

I would rather start with no rank. We haven't done so well the years we were ranked. Let our wins raise our ranking. Wins speak for themselves.

I like the optimistic view you have and Pruitt maybe better than Smart, we will know for sure in the next few years, but Kirby has abundant advantages right now. Their recruiting is up compared to ours, their talent has been developed, and they know their schemes on both side of the ball. Those advantages and Georgia being reigning SEC champs along with legitimate national title contenders tells me that Smart is significantly more proven right now. CJP has yet to prove anything has a head coach. Your optimism, while well intended, is bound to let you down.

Same thing. 27th. Beat West Virginia, and we are in the 25th position. I like our chances.:clapping:

There secondary is weak. I think we exploit that on defense, and we can stop them. I think we have better running backs this year, than Georgia. I think our defense can rattle Fromm this year. In areas, that you think not, we are better than them, and Pruitt will make the necessary adjustments to win this game.:rock:
To me, it doesn’t matter about the recruits this year, because they are younger than us. We have a lot more experience than them. That alone starts us out really good. I wonder what else this staff has up under their sleeves to prepare for Florida and Georgia?:peace2:

I am surprised we are ranked ahead of Vandy and UK. To see teams like Middle Tennessee and Troy ranked ahead of us should make every Vol fan absolutely sick. Thanks Butch.
