I don’t pay attention to the hype,” Jones said. “Our expectations are very high internally.”
They should be.
After nearly a decade wandering in the wilderness, Tennessee is the overwhelming favorite to win the SEC East and end its 11-game losing streak to arch-rival Florida. Jones finally has a talented roster littered with both veterans and promising freshmen. Depth is no longer an illusion.
The Vols should compete for an SEC Championship in 2016, so naturally, Team120’s slogan is simple: Own It.

If not 2016 then when? Barring a bunch of major injuries to key players this is the year we have to retake the crown imo.

Go Vols

This is why I can't stand Butch Jones and his doublespeak when it comes to expectations.

He keeps downplaying it while saying OWN IT.

Makes him look weak and pathetic.

I really wish Shoop was the head coach. He's confident and not afraid to say it's about winning championships.

And just like that the Butch Jones fanboys arrive. Stop defending his cowardice.

Everyone else on the team from the players to assistant coaches like Bob Shoop are saying it's about winning the national title this season.

Butch Jones on the other hand keeps downplaying expectations. His personality disgusts me. Just like I was disgusted when he went for a FG on the 6 inch line against Oklahoma.

I wish he would stop coaching scared. Embrace the expectations and embrace the moment when bold action is required.

He's too scared of the moment. And I fear that might hurt us in a big game or big moment eventhough we have the talent to win.

I don't see where expectations are being downplayed. Own It, is embracing the expectations. The sky is the limit, is saying nothing is expecting too much. Our team is talking about being the greatest team the Vols have ever had, that is an expectation that when reached a NC will be a given. Last year they talked SECe and SEC, this year they are talking Tampa(that's where the NC game will be played). I haven't heard anyone back down from any expectations. They all have talked about getting better each day to see how great this team can be. It has never mattered to them what outside expectations are since the internal expectations are greater. Get better everyday, drive to be the greatest Vol football team ever and let the chips fall. That's not backing down from expectations, that is setting a goal that has no limits.

When a player says they will grind and work to get better everyday to see how great this team can be, how is that backing down.

When a coach says "the sky is the limit" how is that backing down.

Hype is for fans. The grind and the work is for the players and coaches. Hype never won anything. A team that works and grinds to be great and to do great things that's where the wins will come from, not from some newspaper or internet blog.

Funny how D4H has 1 like on each of his posts. I swear it's D4H logging in as Nationdom and liking his own posts.

Well crap....... I see your still here!

And there's the problem.
He hasn't been getting enough attention. And like clockwork, he comes out with something like this every time that happens.

Hard to take someone serious when they are proud to say they're only here because of all the talent Tennessee has. Then claim how much they hate the person responsible.
Ironically, the rebuild job Jones has done here, is also what brought d4h.

Kinda like having a hot new girl move in next door, but you have to put up with her whining, screaming for attention nephew, that's always hanging around.

It's levels to this s**t...one step at a time. This year you will see the confidence that bUTch has in this team and he will roll the dice in tough situations! Just watch!

While I understand the disgust when listening to Butch speak, wishing Shoop was the HC is just plain dumb. I agree Butch has to improve as a HC but he has done a fantastic job of putting us back on the map. He has assembled a team that can beat any other team in the country on any given day. I dont see him down playing the expectations quite as much as you do D4H. No coach in his right mind is going to come out and say some crap like "were suppose to win each game, all we have to do is show up". The only thing that Butch needs to improve is his in game coaching, I could care less what he says to the media.

On a side note: I really wish just one time instead of Butch using the word "individual" he would just say "guy" or "kid". If I never hear him call another player an individual it would earn him some points in my book. Lol

Idk about last part w shoop, but damn I wish he'd own some expectations sometimes. His press conferences last year were like pulling teeth.

Tenn does not need you as a so called troll fan. You might find another team that will take you. Good luck.
