Tennessee on its way back to power? Paul Finebaum believes so based on the response from SEC rivals

During his weekly appearance on Birmingham-based WJOX 94.5 FM radio program “The Roundtable,” Finebaum shared his thoughts on Tennessee’s recent success and noted that the best sign that Pruitt’s program is on the rise comes from all the other rivals calling out the Vols.

“He’s getting players that Tennessee has not gotten in a long time so he’s learned from others, especially his old boss in Tuscaloosa,” Finebaum said on the show. “I think he feels and senses the momentum, so he’s playing to it and no matter how you slice it, Jeremy Pruitt’s recruiting has been the story of this spring. And the reason why I’m convinced that Tennessee is on the cusp of returning to power is I am hearing criticism from other schools, competing schools – from rivals, that he’s not doing that great.

“I haven’t heard anybody mentioned Tennessee recruiting in so long, I mean you have to go back almost to me outside of a brief moment with Butch Jones and Lane Kiffin for about 20 minutes, you have to go back to the heyday of Phil Fulmer. It is amazing — the perception out there right now. There’s nothing going on so if you create a perception, it is going to carry you and I think they’re building off of it.”

“I’m not really that surprised when you know Jeremy Pruitt, and all of us on this program know him,” Finebaum added. “He’s always been a really good recruiter — he may be even a better evaluator, I mean he is in the Nick Saban class, in terms of Nick Saban protegees, I think he may be the best evaluator. And that really makes a big difference in recruiting and Tennessee fans have been hungry and thirsty, and they’ve had a voracious attitude appetite for a long time and I think they’re finally getting a return.”

Haven't had this kind of momentum on Rocky Top in a LONG time. Fulmer and Pruitt will return Tennessee to it's former glory.

EXACTLY - I am tired of wallowing in the pity of our rivals. Time to be fiercely hated again, grudgingly respected - and above all else, to be FEARED!

I listened to the PF show for a sec yesterday and some writer or caller said that our recent recruiting class wasn't much better than in the fast. Not sure if any of you guys heard that.

You know who that was? That was former VOLS writer, Volnation Poster and writer/mercenary/ass kisser extraordinaire Mike Griffith . The guy that used to carry Butch Jones water is now Kirby’s state run propaganda arm. He’s a joke.

Other Finebaum related stuff, I think he insinuated that Pruitt will be on today. He said “the hottest coach in the SEC right now will be on tomorrow.” So I’m guessing CJP.

Yeah he went down there a few years ago. He was @Writer32 on here some years back. Everywhere he goes it seems like he’s the coaches right hand man and BS specialist. Every time he goes on Finebaum, PF pretty much makes fun of him for his spin and outrageous takes . I think he had a behind the scenes article with Butch and his family when we lost 41-0 to UGA where he tried to paint some sort of sympathetic image of the Jones family.

All talk unless it translates to meaningful wins on the field. And I’m not talking about beating South Carolina and Missouri here and there, I’m talking beating Florida, Bama and Georgia and not ceding those as automatic losses annually.

Your Honor, at this time the defense would like to offer exhibit A into evidence.

I like your posts a lot, but you’re not really telling anyone anything that hopefully most of us don’t already know. We have to win. It’s that simple

Our rivals will keep changing their responses to make themselves feel better.

At first it was “they’re just stacking 3 stars” and then it’s “well they’ve always recruited this well they just can’t develop”.

Now it’s “they have to win on the field or the class will fall apart”.

Then it will be “well, that’s just one class let’s see them do it again” and on and on.

IMO, Finebaum is getting excited about Tennessee 1) it's an Alabama guy that appears to be turning us around and 2) deep down I think he does like Tennessee; he is an alum after all even though from watching his show you'd never know it. We certainly haven't given him much to brag about for the last 10+ years, that's for sure.

Paul Finebaum probably will be pushing for Jeremy Pruitt to possibly be the next head football coach of Alabama when Tennessee returns to being an SEC Power.

Thats true.

But the talk is being generated by something that has to happen before that becomes reality.

UT isn't going back to where it once was without better overall and deeper rosters regardless of who is coaching.

IMO, Pruitt will have to at an absolute bare minimum win the East at least once for Alabama to even consider him. He'd probably have to win the SEC for them to truly see him as an option.

They like Pruitt, I don't think they'd be impressed if the most he has achieved here by the time Saban retires is an 8 or 9-win regular season.
