Tennessee's rebuilding project under head coach Derek Dooley has certainly had some bumps in the road. That applies to in-state recruiting as well.

Of the nine four-star prospects in the Volunteer state, the Volunteers seem in good shape with only one. Here's a breakdown of the top prospects in Tennessee:

Jalen Ramsey: He's certainly considering Tennessee, but the defensive back from Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy has shown strong interest in Southern California. Still, he has close friends and mentors with ties to the Vols, including former Vol Buck Fitzgerald, who coaches Ramsey's seven-on-seven team.

Jordan Wilkins: Wilkins told ESPN that Auburn leads for his services. Moreover, the tailback from Cordova (Tenn.) Saint Benedict seems more likely to head north and play for Michigan or Ohio State before signing with the Vols.

Cornelius Elder: Who knows where Elder will end up? The athlete from Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth has given strong indications that he might play basketball instead of football in college.

Camion Patrick: Patrick committed to Tennessee but the Lenoir City (Tenn.) High standout has said he's strongly considering other schools, namely Alabama and Arkansas.

Max Staver: The quarterback from Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy committed to Florida earlier this month.

Frank Herron: The defensive end from Memphis (Tenn.) Central committed to LSU earlier this month.

Mark Dodson Jr.: The tailback from Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven committed to Ole Miss earlier this month.

Austin Sanders: The offensive tackle from Cleveland (Tenn.) Bradley Central is Tennessee's lone, firm commitment among four-star, in-state prospects. He won't even talk to other recruiters about considering other schools. He's definetely Knoxville-bound.

Mack Weaver: The tight end/defensive end from Memphis (Tenn.) Harding Academy has shown interest in Tennessee and several other schools.

What a douchey article...I'm not surprised in the least that Dave Hooker would come up with such a fine piece of journalism.

Also, when did Patrick say he was "strongly considering" other schools? Don't necessarily remember that. I could be wrong, but I feel this is an exaggeration.

UT has actually been very lucky when it comes to instate recruiting. Besides Jelks and Mathers, UT has pretty much gotten who they want from Tennessee

Could he have written a more negative article? How does already having 2 in-state four star commits translate to him stating we are only in serious contention for 1? What a joke. Hey Hooker, we didn't even recruit some of those players.

Only in good shape with 1?? Ummmm We have 5 commitments from Tennessee kids right now lol. Jason Carr is a 4 star on Rivals along with Austin Sanders. And sure, Ramsey likes USC but UT is right there as well. The only two on that list that we DON'T already have committed that I would want is Ramsey and Herron. I could care less about the rest of them.

If we simply sign all the 4* kids from Tennessee every year, we'll end up at 5-7 forever.

Lol everyone knows the key to us winning a NC again is locking down our borders, right? Forget all the great work Dooley does in GA every year, all the real talent is in TN!

For the last couple years

Herron is the only committed prospect UT went after hard in Tennessee this year. UT didn't recruit Dodson or Elder. Its only June and the two biggest Tennessee prospects on the board (JRM & Ramsey) are wanting to see how Tennessee does this year.

The only reason Hooker wrote this article was to get hits on ESPN.com.

I'll bet anything he doesn't even believe it.

I would say three biggest and throw Wilkins in there. Not sure if we can get him though.

I forgot about Wilkins. I don't think UT had a fighting chance with him anyway though. He is this year's Mathers.

Last I heard, he's going to visit, so things may not be hopeless. We did get in on him late though, which hurts.

However, we've recently found our swag again, so we'll see.

It is always the article, writer, the Bleacher report anything or anyone but Dooley's recruiting. He is not the second coming of General Neyland more like Bill Battle's twin brother. One could coach and couldn't recruit, the other is just average all around.
