They do make them for other universities and pro teams. I guess before NIL both descriptions would fit Alabama lol.Very cool. Thanks!!
Imagine if the Gumps ever produced that banner recognizing all of their claimed titles?
Damn thing would be 17 feet long, with references to a website explaining in DEPTH how that did not represent all national titles.....
1967 is flat embarrassing to claim. Otherwise, our claims are legit.I don’t have any issues at all claiming all of the Neyland era titles. Neyland really should have had more consensus titles. Not sure what the deal was back then, Midwest bias? Was 38 the year nobody scored on us? How could we not have been consensus. 67 is the only iffy one
Tennessee only claims championships awarded by recognized NCAA selectors that were awarded at the time. In other words, that season. There are recognized selectors like Sagarin that award retroactive titles, but Tennessee does not recognize those. 1956, for example.1967 is flat embarrassing to claim. UT didn't claim the '67 title until the early/ mid 90's. Therefore, Tennessee’s standard is higher than some other schools. Others will recognize retroactive titles as long as the selector is an NCAA recognized selector.
1967 fits Tennessee’s more exclusive criteria.
The 1967 team (that finished 9-2) was selected Litkenhous champions only. Georgia was Litkenhous only the next year but they don't claim it. We shouldn't claim 67' either. That's the only Bama-esqe title we claim though.Tennessee only claims championships awarded by recognized NCAA selectors that were awarded at the time. In other words, that season. Yes but even at 9-1 we were ranked 3rd or 4th in the AP and coaches polls. The real shame is your statement about Neyland not being awarded more championships. He should have had 2-3 more. Are you asking us ‘Why?’ Or do you have the answer? If you know why, please share. I’m curious.Bowl games used to not count. Isn’t that the last year they didn’t count ?
It was around then. This is a good historical analysis of various claims through 2019.Bowl games used to not count. Isn’t that the last year they didn’t count ?
Don’t recognize this as it didn’t have Tennessee in the 1939 discussionIt was around then. This is a good historical analysis of various claims through 2019.

THE definitive national champ for each season, 1869-2019
Or the closest thing to it, based on historical consensus. We’ll also do a final count at the end.www.bannersociety.com
