the apathy on this board toward the WNBA is disheartening and a little bit shocking. From people who post nonstop about the lady Vols and celebrate the LVFL like they are part of their own family is sad.

If you didn’t watch the Sky in the playoffs last year with the now likely established GOAT in Candace Parker, then you missed some of the best basketball ever. The team play was artistry. Like watching an entire concert perform.

We have supported the W by going to games and then buying season tickets since 2006 when the Sky came to Chicago. We’ve taken tons of people with our spare tix and every one, even the total testosterone cousins have enjoyed themselves immensely. My brother and his friends created the W Fantasy league we are playing in. The product is good. No, it’s actually It’s tremendous. It just has to fight such terrible stigma. If you like college ball, then any game in the W features better athletes and better skill at the pinnacle of women’s basketball.

I get tired of hearing people complain that it’s not exciting. That’s misogynist BS. It is completely the male driven narrative in this culture that is not rooted in anything other than misogyny. As supporters of the LVs y’all should be wanting to tear down these horrible cultural norms that are so limiting and quite frankly tiring. They dont just do a disservice to these ladies, it dilutes the quality everyone’s life experiences as well.

Furthermore, the disparity in basketball and life for women is growing not shrinking. If these ladies want to raise their voices than more power to them. They aren’t just raising their voices for themselves they are doing it for all the oppressed. Furthermore, I think almost all of you would complain if your male counterpart in a job was making more than 100x what you did. Imagine making $1000 to do what the other skilled laborer did next door who was a male and earned $100k.

There are more women than men in this country, ergo, more pockets
Scared marketing or a complete lack thereof is what keeps the W from growing
NOT the product
not the "he-man woman haters" club

One thing I'll say about Connecticut fans and their forum: they are women's basketball junkies in general, without qualifying it in any way, and certainly without lecturing ad nauseum about the economics of the sport. I have alot of respect for that. I think if we'd developed as many pro players (with longevity) as they had, you'd see more of it with Tennessee fans. Hopefully that changes during Kellie's era.

Lot to agree with here. I would point to the LPGA as an example of what great management, including marketing can do for women’s professional leagues. Not where they need to be but over the last 6-7 years they have added tournaments, really upped purses and increased media coverage. The league commissioner who was responsible for that growth, a male, was unfortunately hired away by the PGA. people root for their hometown team. W needs to expand.
Can’t ignore the bias against female athletics but have got to overcome. As they say, Ginger Rodgers did everything Fred Astaire did backwards and in heels.

I understand your desire to see improved support for the WNBA, but I don't think you've made a compelling analysis as much as you have tied some anecdotal observations with cursory statistical data. The last point about men being a much, much larger audience for consuming sports is probably the most relevant. People are allowed to like what they like. That's how it is. And I think understanding who likes and consumes sports content is a much stronger starting point for analysis, rather than claiming "fear" is an explanation for why men do not support the product. Or so on.

It’s a both and scenario. Without dealing with these horrible sexist tropes exceptional marketing will only get you so far. Can’t expect much when Amb3096 who is a women’s college basketball fan is on here vociferously defending how terrible the WNBA is. We can’t even get women’s basketball fans to back the W.

The Lingerie League in football does not support your theory. Guys may watch a few times for the novelty, but will soon drop off.

Walker was all around very good. Puckett was on fire from deep. Wynn did hit one, but still cannot finish at the rim for love or money. Key was Key, blocked a 3 pt attempt but did not dominate on offense the way you'd think she should in 3 x 3. They tried to screen and roll alot but the pass was not always caught. Lots of one on one to the rim, Walker successful Wynn unsuccessful. Puckett was releasing her shot really quickly.

Interesting that there seems to be no coaches on the sidelines. Looked like they were subbing out themselves.
