Tennessee Lady Vol News

Coach Caldwell mentioned several things in this interview about the current roster that I’ve said since the summer. I learned this by watching film, hearing coaches speak, and knowing college basketball. The film is there for everyone to watch but yet instead we hear the repetitive analysis describing this team as overlooked, none star players, etc because it’s the simple & lazy approach to take by fans and the media. These players were recruited by multiple SEC, ACC, Big 10, and Big East teams. The thing Coach Caldwell did different when she added two new Power 4 assistant coaches was recruit her team and recommit to her system & coaching philosophy. This is the best roster Coach Caldwell has had since coming to Tennessee in terms of overall talent and leadership. It’s not even close.

I couldn't figure out which player is KK. She has a lot of praise for Kennedy Fauntleroy and Jada Steel. KK also could not figure out who that was anybody? I think it might be Smickle
I was trying to figure out the same thing but I highly doubt Smikle is our best defender given she’s not fully 100% yet. Could definitely be wrong though.

Every head coach knows better than anyone that includes myself who is performing the best in any area on their team. Like she said, all players are CLEARED. It’s not as if Kaylene Smikle has to relearn everything she’s capable of doing and proven in her years of being a full-time starter/leading team scorer at Maryland. She just has to recondition to play longer and get in playing shape.
So I would say yes thinking CKC isn’t talking about Kaylene Smikle you are wrong. But she also spoke highly of several other players and the entire team overall. This is the first year at Tennessee where CKC has the talent, leadership, and depth to play 5 in and 5 out. Her first and second 5-in group will be made up of former starters from the ACC, SEC, Big 10, and Big East. I loved what Aaliyah Moore said in her interview about Gabby Minus. I’ve seen watched film of this kid play at a high level and win big for two years at Hebron in Georgia. She will be a force in the SEC on both offense and defense.

Turns out it is Smikle totally released and deemed our best defender on the team. I also expect her to be our top offensive player. She seems to be the total package to replace Cooper.

Of the practice one reporter viewing said that the standouts were Fat, Naomi, and Aallyah. Coach has called out Steele, Fauntleroy, and Smikle so looks like a lot of players are playing well to this point in practice.

That is wonderful to hear!! I was expecting her to be out best offensive piece but this is even better to hear. When your best player is also your best defender, that tends to really help with the culture, effort, etc

What’s the realistic expectation of this team?

The interview with Kim was exactly what I hoped to hear. I have always enjoyed how forthright she is in interviews, and how she NEVER has difficulty finding words to instantly answer the questions. She doesn't need any “uhhhhs” or “ummmms“ to use as space fillers while she decides what to say, and this is one of the qualities I appreciate most about Caldwell. Hell, even at those times last year when I thought she mis-spoke, I still appreciated the fact that she knew how she felt and could express herself without stumbling awkwardly or consistently admitting she simply “did not know” or “had no idea.” The girl will just blurt it out. Lol

I am so glad Cooper is gone. Forgot she left lmao.

That’s one crappy attitude the team won’t miss.

How good is this team expected to be?

I think that Kim appears much less burdened right now, which is refreshing. Yes, the burden may reappear if the season doesn't go well, but I am glad she has a renewed spirit and seems confident. A reset never hurt anyone.

Go Lady Vols!
I think we all forget sometimes that part of Kim’s burden last year was she had an infant to worry about. Being a mother is a full-time job itself, so I’m sure she was always exhausted.

We'll learn a lot this season. First season she had a lot of buy in with that team they seem to get the most out of what they had. The second team looked to be split between listening to her and Assistants that seem to have their own ideas of how the team should operate. Was evident that the team was not playing together or with full effort. Unlike some posters I think this coming team is just as talented as last year and a lot more experienced than that one. This team tells us a lot of will Kim ever be successful at this level with any team. I know they are not talented enough to win the SEC, but I can see them being in the top five and I think anything less than 23 wins would be a failure with this coming schedule.

Toddlers can be just as hard if not way harder than infants. But is this fair to working women? Is anyone asking if her hubby is as good a coach now that he's a father? This feels like a stereotype. Also an excuse.

The Caldwells have the advantage of far more available help already and far more financial ability to get more help with their child than most working first time parents.
