Tennessee Lady Vol News

Interesting numbers, thank you. Currently, UT is 3rd (out of 359 teams) in 3-pt attempts per game at 33.6, but we're 273rd in 3-pt percentage (26.8%). Cooper, Barker, and Civil are a combined 21 of 54 (38.9%) but the rest of the team have hit just 24 of 114 (21.1%). We're hitting 56.8% of our 2-pointers.

Overall, comparing our scoring efficiency for 2FGA vs 3FGA, we're scoring 41% more per 2-pt shot (1.14 points vs 0.80 points).

Scoring efficiency is biased against 3FGA, especially for us as a team that woud like to hav 20+ oRBs per game.

Thinking Belmont here. Kaniya attempted three 3s in the 4th QTR, and we got 8 points off them. Two of them went in, and the third was de facto interior pass to Prawl for an easyish 2.

The way stats are kept completely less us down here. A missed 3 that gets rebounded is still treated as purely negativ w.r.t. the perimeter-specific stats -- yet not only is a rebounded 3 practically a free shot (and therefore, accurately analyzed, doesn't really hurt our numbers) but often those rebounds happen in a spot where the rebounder can put up a decently high percentage 2, with a good chance of drawing a foul.

Our season will/shoud be defined not by whether we can jump that 3% up a few points, but whether we'll be able to jump our rebound% up to lead the country in oRBs. That's the heart of the system: it's what justifies letting the 3s fly.

I agree!

It is easily verified as fact that for MANY years Pat Summitt stood ALONE in being so unselfishly forward-thinking in regard to scheduling that she placed "the growth of the game" before her own program's guaranteed success.

This is precisely why there has never been, nor ever WILL BE, another coach who can equal Pat's impact on the game. Every single coach today who touts having tough OOC schedules is following PAT'S lead from decades ago.

Pat says, "You're welcome."

IIRC, Glenville State won their National Championship game shooting around 20% from 3. They just got a ton of extra possessions, and that made up for it.

caldwell is on point with her critiques of the team
but as the coach she deserves some criticism as well
because her system is at fault for some of the issues

for instance, not calling timeouts when teams go on a run
or not calling timeouts to sub exhausted players when there's no deadball
subbing in the wrong lineups and subbing out the right ones

not hunting or exploiting obvious mismatches
not attacking players that are in foul trouble
nor attacking the rim enough to draw fouls to get into the bonus

i love coach but if you're gonna throw the team under the bus
you better make sure that you're putting them in position to succeed first
It’s early, I think she is trying different combinations to see who plays well together.

At no point has she “thrown the team under the bus.”

We moved up one to #14. How did Ole Miss stay put at #13 when they went into overtime with Memphis? If we had done that, we would've dropped at least 2-3 spots.

I’ll hold my tongue on that one.

Ole Miss does not look like a Top 20 team at all to me. Not even based on potential.

Their guard play is questionable, they have essentially no interior game and McMahon has regressed. She is literally just a walking offensive foul with a motormouth. I’d hate to be her teammate.

How does a 2 lose usc team stay in the top 20

The Big O with Coach Kim
I really like that Kim can be tough and critical but apparently also maintains affectionate relationships with her players. I think the will help the team as well as make it less likely we lose key players to the portal each year (year one was a total success in this IMO).
