Interesting numbers, thank you. Currently, UT is 3rd (out of 359 teams) in 3-pt attempts per game at 33.6, but we're 273rd in 3-pt percentage (26.8%). Cooper, Barker, and Civil are a combined 21 of 54 (38.9%) but the rest of the team have hit just 24 of 114 (21.1%). We're hitting 56.8% of our 2-pointers.
Overall, comparing our scoring efficiency for 2FGA vs 3FGA, we're scoring 41% more per 2-pt shot (1.14 points vs 0.80 points).
Scoring efficiency is biased against 3FGA, especially for us as a team that woud like to hav 20+ oRBs per game.
Thinking Belmont here. Kaniya attempted three 3s in the 4th QTR, and we got 8 points off them. Two of them went in, and the third was de facto interior pass to Prawl for an easyish 2.
The way stats are kept completely less us down here. A missed 3 that gets rebounded is still treated as purely negativ w.r.t. the perimeter-specific stats -- yet not only is a rebounded 3 practically a free shot (and therefore, accurately analyzed, doesn't really hurt our numbers) but often those rebounds happen in a spot where the rebounder can put up a decently high percentage 2, with a good chance of drawing a foul.
Our season will/shoud be defined not by whether we can jump that 3% up a few points, but whether we'll be able to jump our rebound% up to lead the country in oRBs. That's the heart of the system: it's what justifies letting the 3s fly.
