Tennessee Lady Vol News

Not unless they're dumber than Lady Vols.
My thinking was that the normal basketball habits of the top tier players might be more deeply ingrained, if over their young lives they've been playing longer and playing more often than the girls CKC has coached before. Thus, our players might take longer.

When muscle memory gets attached to sight & sound, it takes not just time and repetition, but intentionality to break those habits--and that moment of conscious thought is a distraction from scanning and comprehending developments on the court in that moment. It's probably like delaying their court information processing for a half-second, just at the moment of transition from offense to defense.

With three 5th Year players, three Seniors, and a redshirt Senior... I guess Kaniya and Talaysia are as close as we have to "controls" in this experiment.

Our dear friend Charlie Creme of ESPN Bracketology has us facing THEEE OhioState. Should we survive, we probably face Oklahoma. Beating them will get us a rematch with Auriemma, Dailey & Company.

Creme, loathsome creature, doesn't try to predict anything other than what the NCAA Committee will do. He's not half bad at that.

The elite are already more cardio-advanced coming in bc they are most often on the court longer anyway

I was talking about their mental habits after years of play -- like immediately heading back downcourt to set up on defense after a made shot rather than finding a man and pressing.

That crew doing the Vandy vs Arizona game is a tough listen. Cindy Brunson and Christy Winters-Scott calling the action and Autumn Johnson reporting on the sidelines. Almost as bad as Becca.
Tonight's Lady Vols game has Sam Gore on play by play and Tamika Catchings on color commentary..

Somewhat agree. More deeply ingrained, yes. But changing the pace of play could require adjustments in shot mechanics. I think this might be what’s happening to Puckett. She looks a tad off balance on her 3s when she runs and pulls up.

I'm guessing you've either played sports at a high level, or are very close to someone who has. Are you a natural athlete yourself? (Or have been at some point in your life?)

I understand that CKC’s system relies on pressure defense, offensive rebounding, having significantly more shots up than the opponents.
The stats looked good based on this. The WC had like 37 TOs, and l think we almost or did double them up on rebounds and shot attempts.
They did, however, shoot 50% on us. CKC was asked about this post game and she didn’t seem too concerned but she doesn’t elaborate much in a presser.
So… is 50% okay for our new system? I guess if we get 2X the shots we still win shooting 30% to their 50%. Is the 50% reasonable given the full court pressing we do i.e. If they escape our initial press they will generally have open shots?
Thanks in advance For thoughts on this. I guess I need to know what to worry about!😆😆

Ideally you’d like that to be lower, of course, but it’s really a non-issue if you’re getting that many more possessions than your opponent.

Because of the style of play the looks we tend to give up are much easier, ie the occasional wide open layup off of the press. As opposed to maybe a tough jumper if you’re busting it back and setting up a really sturdy half court D every possession.

It’s a spend money to make money style. Sure you’re gonna give up the occasional easy look, but the pressure pays off way more than it cuts into our bottom line.

The forced turnovers are nuts. Idc who you’re playing, that is NOT easy to do. The relentless pressure wears on teams as well. They make more and more errors as the game goes along and they get mentally and physically fatigued.

So it looks like a win over Iowa would be a BFD. Gosh, hope our team can get these next two wins so they AND us can breathe a little easier about where they stand at this point. Florida State and Iowa are perfect opponents for this point. Maybe not NCAA Finals-level opponents, but a possible Sweet 16.

Why does it have to be so darn long until our next game? That one game yesterday sandwiched between 18 days off is the most brutal schedule this obsessed fan has ever experienced. 😵‍💫

I know, right?!

If this gives Jewel Spear time to heal and be ready for the next two games, I’m all for it. If not, the break still gives the team time to prep without her. That line of thought helps me cope. Lol.

Also gives us some time to get back in the gym and run off Thanksgiving dinner lol
