Tennessee Is The 3rd Most Overrated Team?

If every program on that list is overrated, then would it be safe to assume that college football in general is overrated? Maybe watching sports is overrated. I never knew it until now that I hated college football.

I'll take every ONE of those schools in the OVERRATED category over ANY of the schools in the underrated section.

Looks like some pretty good schools in that top 5. Who's kidding who?

I just want to know who rated us to the point where we were overrated. The formula seems to be if you have a good history but lack success in recent years then you are overrated. Amirite? In that case, I just want a list of teams that are rated just right. Anything like that out there? I want to watch some rated football.

Except Bama is in the underrated category...

Look, the way his formula works if you have great talent, recruits and they underperform, you were overrated. Wasn't that why Coach Fulmer was shown the door?

The Beastie Boyz are overrated too, but dang, I'll take the Beastie Boyz over Boise State any day.

I think what this shows more is failure of the ranking system in general. The polls and to a lesser extent the computer rankings are so flawed the only thing that will fix the system is a playoff.

No, he basically says (overrated team here) won a BCS game in 1990 but they haven't won it since then so they are overrated. So, if his formula is correct, Boise State, Utah, Bama and USC should all be overrated in the next 10 years.

Yes, the formula is stupid. A team that starts the season unranked has nowhere to go but up since he's assigning all unranked teams a 26.

So if a team was the 30th best team in the country at the beginning of the year and finished the 70th best team in the country would get a score of 0. i.e. they would be assigned a neutral rating for a season where they were wildly overrated. Whereas a team could start out ranked #5, drops 15 spots to #20 they would be assigned an overrated score of 15 even though they came a lot closer to expectations than the team that dropped 40 spots.

Feels great to see Tennessee so highly ranked for the first time in some time... Or never mind! This is a terrible article. Any group that includes USC, Texas, and LSU is a good place to be. I don't care if we are overrated if we are winning like those programs!

2002 and 2005 seasons are the main reason UT is ranked #3...

UT is -70 since 1990.... 02' and 05' make up a minimum -45 pts...(#26-#2, #26-#5)...

exclude those two years and we average being overrated by a 1.25 ranking per year... (25 / 20 years)....

Well the MAJOR Flaw in all of this as I see it is as follows.

Polls are based strictly on W-L even if #9 loses to # 2 they will drop. Even though all they did was what everyone theoretically thought they would.

If you take the 10 baddest men on earth and they fight each other 1 after another, almost all of those guys are gonna lose. (thinking every fight there will be a winner and a loser) now in a perfect world we would know who #1 is and who # 10 is, but if #10 loses to 1-9 he is still the 10th baddest man on earth.
so now take the 25th baddest man on earth and have him fight #'s 90-100 he should be undefeated but still not be able to beat the winless 10th man. UNLESS #10 has suffered so many poundings he is no longer the 10th best due to getting his butt kicked by the other 9.

Ridiculous.... There are so many variables that are left unaccounted for such as injury, strength of schedule, etc... FWIW, he also has the Big 12 as the most overrated conference followed by the SEC. His most underrated conference was the Mountain West... I say, as soon as these "underrated" teams start competing consistently with his "overrated" teams then I will pay attention to his pointless rankings.

Cant wait for football again!!!
