It’s not confusing. There’s only one Big Orange. No disrespect to the Illini (much disrespect to Clemson, however) but their orange, while very nice, doesn’t hold a candle to Pantone 151.

Ranking every orange team's orange (completely objectively)​

Analysis
This is some of that heavy hitting off season analysis that is only possible with the break in action that accompanies the off season. I've taken every team (that I found on a cursory glance) in FBS that uses orange as a primary or secondary color and have ranked them so that history can look back and definitively see who has the best orange. This ranking is 100% objective, 100% factual and 100% set in stone.

Tennessee	ff8200	Undisputedly the greatest Orange. Inspired by the humble yet beautiful American Daisy, Pantone 151c is the color of champions and the puke inside pumpkins. When checkered with white, there is no more spectacular sight in all of sports. You know how you can say "go big blue" and everyone except Kentucky fans knows who you're talking about, well go big orange.
Illinois	ff5f0f	Maybe this is just because I'm an SEC guy not a B1G guy, but I feel like we don't talk about Illinois' orange enough. This is an orange, with plenty of pop.
Oklahoma State	fe5c00	There is absolutely a reason I always pull for OSU in bedlam. This orange is an eye grabber, it is always sure to grab your attention.
Boise State	d64309	While not nearly as iconic as the blue playing field at Albertsons, the orange end zones really do pull the whole thing together.
UTSA	f15a22	a much better orange than what UTA trie claims as orange. Though I am surprised it's not even more red due to the road runner's speed causing a red shift.
Syracuse	f76900	An excellent orange, certainly we expected no less from "The Orange". everyone talks about PSU's old colors, but no one mentions Syracuse's orange
Oregon State	d73f09	I don't think real beavers are this color. Not the animals anyway. Still, pretty decent orange.
Bowling Green	fd5000	No one else thinks the primary colors for BGSU should include green? Just Me? Ok.
UTEP	ff8200	I like that all the Texas schools seem to stick with orange, I wish UT-Martin and UT-Chattanooga would also stick with orange. But to steal our orange? For shame. Better than Texas, not as good as UTSA.
Sam Houston	f56423	A new challenger approaches! Sam Houston Joins FBS this season and I initially forgot to include them. While they haven't had time to establish a tradition of excellence to match their excellent color, it is still a very nice orange.
Miami	f47321	Miami is the best orange football team in Florida!
Virginia Tech	e87722	While certainly not the worst orange, I think it was definitely a good idea to add the maroon. As this is a rather plain orange, and a little to "burnt" for my liking.
Virginia	e57200	Honestly neither of the Virginia schools have great oranges, but I think tech has the edge.
Auburn	f26522	Well, at least you tried.
Texas	bf5700	I'm told that someone by the name of Brown brought a Texas team some orange ribbons and that's where y'all got these colors. Wyoming at least has a good reason to choose brown.
Clemson	f56600	Literally just trying to sneak into the Appalachian market with the off brand orange nonsense, only slightly less disgusting than Florida.
