Tennessee has the worst....

Hell, they were on the damn field the entire second half. We had a RB run for 92 yards in the first half. Why not adjust to a more run oriented offense in the second half?
When have they gotten off the field all year long? Except when he had overwhelming depth and talent... when have they ever?

Why not actually STOP SOMEONE.

Versus the SEC...

Year one- 13th in total D
2- 11th
3- 7th
4- 2nd
5- and now... 13th

One good year in 5. There are no excuses. He's just not very good. I'm not sure who else needs to go with him... but he needs to go.

You're not wrong. That we have a bad defense is a damn good reason to run the ball more. That's my whole point but you're absolutely correct. Too many players out of position far too often

The sad part is that we didn't beat anybody and good at all. Lost to every higher ranked team we played. Overall NOT a good season even though we want to think that Joey was a savior, compared to Pavia, he pales in comparison. Was glad to have him though. I hope G Mac gets to play in the Mayo Bowl.

Our offense let us down tonight. I don't understand why we didn't run the ball a LOT more in the first half. The defense gave us 14 points tonight otherwise this blowout loss would've been Waaay worse.

Umm the defense would have given up 14 more points without the two interceptions so I am not sure how that is a compliment unless you think giving up 60 points to Vanderbilt at home is impressive

No one wants us to turn into Iowa but Heupel should seriously rethink his overall strategy. More balance on offense and less reliance on up tempo / quick strike. More fundamentally sound and less reliance on the big turnover on defense. Obviously, we need to focus more attention on defense, especially at LOS and LB. The UK and UF offensive blowouts were fun but we couldn't sustain it against Alabama, Oklahoma or Vandy.

I'm neutral regarding outlook for next year. Should be an interesting off season.

Joey was borderline mana from heaven compared to what we were facing. This was a potential five win season if we didn’t have him.

Tim Banks was a hero when his defense lead Tennessee to the CFP last year. We ranked 7th nationally in defense in 2024. This year was AWFUL, but look at the numbers. Tennessee started more freshmen than any other SEC team. 50% of the team are freshman. We have the youngest team in the SEC. Mistakes made were primarily due to youth and inexperience. Its the big orange screw... Defense is great in 2024, the QB was trash. The O was great in 2025, the D was trash. One positive is these youngsters have a year under their belt and they will get better. The next 2-3 seasons should be very good.

Yes, it was definitely the freshman corner’s fault we couldn’t spy Pavia or stop him I running on third and 99.

All the movement up until the snap tells me everything
I think you hit the nail on the head. I’m not here to trash anybody (seems so silly and sophomoric) BUT …especially in the 2nd half of VU game…our defense was out of position, out of their lanes, confused almost continuously. Lest we forget…IF Matthew make the TD catch…it’s a 3 pt game. This entire season was a massive series of mistakes IMO and all the bad play that comes with it. Injuries? UNDENIABLY had a negative impact on the defense. BUT…we CLEARLY have some off season analysis to be done…and maybe a change in staffing or two.

... Defensive Coordinator in the SEC.

Change My Mind.
Well, let's see...DBs constantly out of position, especially at the goal line. They got sucked in on the fake and Alexander just runs around them. Receivers left wide open on 3rd and long for easy first downs. Pavia left to run at will on 3rd and long. DBs can't tackle. Not much doubt in my mind that we have the athletes and players, and they play hard, but but for those things to happen constantly is all about coaching. It's frustrating to have to outscore the opponent every game...not a winning strategy. I understand the injuries. It's hard to replace an All-American, but backups can be coached to play better. This diatribe is just to say...AGREE!

can someone find our D's 3rd down proficiency, I mean deficiency rate since CJH. Seems 3rd down is no problem for almost every team we played, except maybe the creampuffs. That's on the DC and staff! I think a Performance Review is sorely needed!

Well, he did improve the defense consecutively over his first four years, culminating in the SEC’s best defense prior to OSU last year (and still top 10 after). So, I think that would meet reasonable doubt or preponderance of evidence standards in contesting your assertion in any court of law. But Volnation isn’t a reason-based court of law… it’s where low testosterone men go to wail at any impediments they encounter in life.

Well, I'm certainly not attempting to defend what we saw from our defense this year but I think Arkansas and Mississippi State would like to have a word.

I’ve often thought Chavis was good only when he had superior talent to mask deficiencies, like Pruitt as a DC.
You mean in 1995 when we had 8 starters on defense who actually started in the NFL but gave up 62 points to Florida. We got blown out more often by rivals during our loaded years than we do now. You know why the 2002 defense gave up so many points and yards to our rivals with so much NFL talent? They were on the field all the damn time, much like Heupel's defenses are at times.

He was dropping off at UCF before he came here. Maybe riding coattails of coaches before him idk 🤷‍♂️
I get the argument, but he didn't ride Pruitts coat tails for sure and the talent cupboard was pretty barren when he arrived.

I just think maybe because hes never been in the situation, he just doesn't know what to do past year 4 😬

Ok I'll play the game. So you lose an all-sec pass rusher and most of your DT's to the NFL. Take an all-american cb, and all-sec cb out the entire season due to injuries, and replace both safeties. Total of 14 gone in your 2 deep that doesn't including an all world talent like Boo Carter that gave to on the team before the session started. And you expect him to put a top 10 defense out there with an offense like ours that doesn't play ball control? I think this year is a bad year to judge Banks when he was handcuffed in his roster. I'm not saying I love him, but I do know he didn't have allot to work with. Oh. Flame away.
