Tennessee has no "white knight"

It's disappointing to see other programs realizing the benefit of a strong football program and investing whatever it takes to ensure they get it. Michigan, OSU, Texas, Alabama. I for one would be ok paying higher ticket prices if UT cracked open the check books for a Harbaugh type. Just look what he has done in 2 years compared to the 4 from MAC coaches like Butch

I have come to the conclusion that the powers that be here are just not that competent. This program is a power of the past and will be for many years to come. We are going to be delegated to just talking about the good ole days. That is what mediocre programs do.

None of the coaches you all wanted would touch Tennessee 4 years ago. Why? Because they do not have the patience or desire and maybe even the skills to rebuild a program from scratch. They also knew it would take longer than the vocal minority would allow and did not want to take that type of chance with their career. Jones coming to Tennessee was a big gamble for his career - just like Strong going to Texas was a big gamble for his.

And some of you make no sense - you throw out names of other coaches who have also lost to their conference's Missouri, South Carolina etc. You throw out names of coaches with losing records. You throw out names of coaches that Jones has beaten.

None of the big names are coming here. And I suspect even the most talented up and coming coaches might think twice IF they have paid any attention to how easily some fans turn on the team.

Some of us hated him from the moment his name surfaced as a possible candidate and nothing has really changed in 4 years. We've been in a waiting game for far too long. Anyone is better than this cheeseball.

Bring back Dooley.

I see people post things like this all the time. It makes no sense.

Michigan got a great hire in Jim Harbaugh- but he was a Michigan man. Played QB under their legendary coach Bo. You think without those Michigan connections he leaves the NFL?

Even so, Michigan has yet to make it to their conference championship game, yet to beat their arch rivals OSU, and yet to make it to the playoffs. By Volnation's standards - He's highly unsuccessful and will likely be given one more year before he's fired. :loco:

Texas opened up the checkbook for Strong and what did that get them-

6-7
5-7
5-7

Reading comprehension please. I said like a CJH. My entire point is it would be beneficial for UT to finally open up the checkbook to hit a home run instead of the Dooleys and Jones of the world. You may be ok with that last decade, but to me is sucks

In today's world 4 years is long enough to give a guy paid 4 million dollars a year to compete at a high level. Coaches realize the nature of this business. Jones **** the bed this year, and not one game did we have a game plan that had this team competing all 60 minutes.

Butch Jones is not that guy. Tennessee has a lot of resources that a good solid coach could come in and win. We have some of the best facilities in the country, 100k stadium on the river, some of the most passionate fans.....a good coach IF OFFERED the right money would come here. Problem is not Tenneesse nor its fans. Its the administration, PERIOD!

But many on here wanted him when he was available.

Which makes zero sense to me. If we fired Butch and hired Strong, we'd be getting similar results if not worse than what we have with Butch right now.

I think the recruiting would improve under Strong. Not sure about any other aspects of the program. I'm sure he learned a few things at Texas and being a free agent he doesn't have to bring anyone in particular with him. I think Butch is probably focused on keeping his band together as best he can so they can follow him to wherever next year.
