Tennessee Has 187 Offers to 2010 Prospects But Can Only Sign 28 (fanhouse)

Sometimes I really wonder if these guys are getting paid... half their articles read like a freshman english assignment.

That being said, I really hope that everyone in Knoxville is on the same page in regards to recruiting... you could burn a lot bridges if we end up pulling ships from a lot of people that commit early. One way to guarantee recruiting trouble is to start pissing off HS coaches.

Means they can say "well, son, you can commit to us, or we'll take the next guy."

Every college football team in existence, from D1 to NAIA, offers more scholarships than they have to physically give. I fail to see how this merits an "article".

wow what a waste of a an article. seriously, who doesn't offer more schollys than they have to give? these people need to find something else to write about. But it looks like UT is back in the news for everything. Any publicity is good publicity, right? :)

Not true. The Ivy League does not offer football scholarships.

Also, another point that needs to be made again is that Fulmer and his staff had 168 offers handed out in the 2008 signing period...

They have more than 187 out there. Plus, this article just goes by Rivals list which isn't accurate in itself. They have offered more, we just don't know it because the services don't.

I'm pretty sure that dudes that write on fanhouse are not getting paid. I could be wrong.

I would also like to know how many schollys Florida, Bama, USC, and other schools have offered. Comparison would be nice. But you never get the "rest" of the story from these clowns.

USC does not offer willy nilly because they do not have to.

Even the best teams have a handful of players who weren't highly regarded as prospects. If you spam a zillion offers to every five-star prospect in the country, those three-star or less prospects have to know that, to them, a scholarship offer from you means about as much as an e-mail from somebody claiming to be a relative of a recently deceased corrupt Nigerian bureaucrat.

I completely disagree with this analysis of the situation. If UT is offering a ton of scholarships to nothing but 5 and 4 star recruits, and then we offer a 3 star recruit a scholly, wouldn't that mean that we think very very highly of that specific 3 star. Meaning that we think they're a sleeper, been underrated, or we see a potential that others major programs don't?

A 10% acceptance is about right. I don't think we will pull back any. Most of the elite players we want will have between 10-30 offers and can name the school they want to attend. The acid test will be who we invite for an "official" visit on our dime. I think the current limit is 56 with a six visit carryover from unused visits from last year. Watch who we invite for these as they will be the ones we truly want and think we have a good chance of landing.
