Tennessee Football: Strengths, Weaknesses and Secret Weapons

** According to Phil Steele's experience ratings, the Vols are third nationally behind Kent State and Charlotte with 76.9 percent experience points. **

This is THE reason I believe this season could be special. We have NOT out recruited every team on our schedule in the past 3 years. But we've recruited very good and have a large quantity that have played an abundance of snaps early in their careers. THIS is the year where our peak is.

Next year we'll lose productive seniors and load the NFL with Jrs too. Then we'll be in the same talent/experience cycle like everyone else in the SEC. Our Vols have to seize the moment THIS year. Anything can happen good or bad. But, on paper the "stars are as aligned" for a title run like never before in recent history.

I've been trying to say this forever but all the scaredy cats on here are too scared of expectations and keep acting like 10-2 is a good season.

With the talent and experience we have right now, anything short of 11-1 and a spot in the playoffs is a disappointment.

We might never have an opportunity to accomplish something this special ever again.

Agree wholeheartedly Von. Joshua Dobbs is one of my all-time favorite Vols and arguably the best "face of the program' we've ever had. He's a great competitor, an outstanding football player and, by all accounts, an even better human being. If anyone on here doesn't follow him on Twitter, I suggest they do ASAP.....if possible, you'll have an even better appreciation of who he is. The kid will leave our program next year as one of the most beloved figures in Tennessee Vols football and sports history.

Unfortunately, there are those on here won't acknowledge or allow for any legit criticism of Josh or Hurd or any other player. One can literally tick off 6-7 strengths to his game and call him one of the best qbs in the country....yet, if you dare to mention his one flaw as a player, his lack of consistent accuracy throwing the ball, or point out that as good as he is, there are in fact better college qbs in the country, you get a few on here coming out with the long knives calling you anything from a negavol to a player hater to even worse.

Nah. The problem is some people like you only like to talk about weaknesses and never give him much credit.

I've said myself many times that Dobbs needs to improve his consistency as a passer.

Its just not the only thing I say with regard to Josh. For many here, regardless of the topic, if Dobbs is mentioned there is usually a negative jab at his passing ability. And it's not in the positive tone you just used here. Its usually snarky, mean, or plain disrespectful.

I only object to those unfair criticisms of him. I object when I feel the person making the criticism is saying it in a tone where they are rooting against him. I'm not saying you are one of these people. Its just that there are quite a few of those types on this site. Those who seem to want to see our starting QB fail.

Give the schedule and the way it plays out, 10-2 is more realistic that 11-1. The 4 game stretch from mid September to mid October is brutal with no bye week in there...

Hehe.
You once started a thread explaining that bad passes were all because of play-calling and no fault of Dobbs.

Man use your brain.
The compliments of Dobbs above have always been here.
You only focused on the other.
Which actually made people talk about it more because they were trying to explain.
Yes, I will say that one more time. Your unreasonable defense of Dobbs caused more conversation and attention to his past passing limitations.
You did that.

The reason Dobbs gets most of the criticism he does on here is because of YOU, plain and simple. Your over the top comments about him lead to guys on here going at you hard to set the record straight.

Most on here see him as an outstanding playmaking, winning QB, still struggling with his consistency throwing the ball accurately, especially deep down the field......which is what he is.

But you then blow that up by saying he's the best QB in the country, about to win the heisman and be a #1 NFL draft pick.

Joshua Dobbs is beloved by this fanbase. But your unrealistic thoughts about him leads to him becoming a pawn in an argument with you on here.

Hyperbole much?

From this point on, every year is a potential championship year for the Vols. 2016 is not the pinnacle, it's only the beginning.

If he were to be actually genuine (he's not :wink2:), he's serving notice that he won't be present in 2017. He only follows special teams...2016 is our "only shot". :). Taking applications for mock drafts and film watching.
