Let's hope he turns out better than our last 6'5" Running back......

Tennessee football: 6-foot-5 running back Dee Beckwith is turning heads

"Tennessee football redshirt freshman Dee Beckwith arrived in Knoxville as a quarterback and transitioned to wide receiver as a freshman. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound athlete was later moved back into the backfield as a running back, where he will look to make an impact in 2021. "

So now I’m going to be waiting for the perfect time for Dee Beckwith to throw Joe Milton a td pass.

DB is gonna be UT's "secret" weapon and rarely used in first 3 games. He may very well be turning heads but we're not seeing any footage. Head coaches these days are on guard as to what they allow the public to know and for good reason.

Anyway... So about this Dee Beckwith guy... Think they will utilize him?
You know... I'm trying to read that too. Mack didn't give much up at all yesterday. He was complimentary of Beckwith but didn't really commit to anything with him. He seemed to be a little higher on Wright's ability to contribute... and was practically gushing over Small and Evans.

I don't remember him saying much about Hodge. I think he talked about Whitehead's opportunity being mostly on special teams right now.

Based on what Coach Mack stated, and with confirming reports by Austin Price, I just don't really see Beckwith being a factor in the RB rotation this season, barring some unforeseen circumstance. Mack definitively said that Small and Evans are the 1a and 1b. Then Price emphatically stated on the VQ podcast that the third guy in the room is Wright, because of his speed. Essentially, the VQ guys' takes are that Beckwith hasn't really picked up the position yet, and that he may not necessarily be the type of back that this staff is looking for. As Price stated, he is possibly too big to play RB in this offense, and not fast enough to play WR.

I don't know, but I personally didn't think that he looked very comfortable in the O&W game. I know that opinion isn't super popular. All that said, the kid is young, and he has plenty of time to mature physically (be it speed or muscle memory at hitting the hole with confidence), learn the position, and contribute. Let's hope that we find a way to maximize his skillset.

This is why I’m surprised he hasn’t been moved to TE.

The VQ guys said that the staff doesn't think he's big enough to handle the blocking assignments at TE. I don't know how they use the TE in this system, if they are in-line guys, or if they flex out a lot, but if it's a flex situation it would seem like he would fit really well.

I agree with you, though, he would seem to have a very solid skill set to get matched up with a LB in the pass game.

If that’s the case, I hope he puts some good weight on in the next year. Turn him into a Kyle Pitts type of TE.

I think Beckwith has something special in his raw athleticism. Personally I hope he makes it at RB because it’s my favorite position on the field, but when it comes down to it, I’d take him (developed obviously) at tight end too. Just like I said, selfishly want to see him destroy at RB. Got my fingers crossed with him. Could be a huge asset there IMO.
