Tennessee Better Worry About Vandy Not Florida...

Did anybody else hear this on Doug Matthews' Show this morning? Tony Barnhardt said a "SEC Coach" told him at the meetings in Destin, that "Tennessee is more in the class of Vandy now than Florida. And Vandy is probably better."

"Worry" and "Vandy" are two words I never use in the same sentence...except this one, I guess.

Did Barnhardt say if Dan Mullen mentioned any other schools that were worse than Vandy?

That's kind of funny...considering last year Vandy's best team in 26 years couldn't beat our worst team in at least 20 years if not more at their place.

Vandy should celebrate their bowl victory, it will likely be another 30 years before they sniff another bowl game. I'm not buying all this junk about Johnson working miracles at Vandy, if anything he's underachieved. He's had 1 season where he started 4-0 and could only win 1 more to end 5-6 (with the best QB in school history and who ended up a first round NFL draft pick) and started last year 5-0 and the best they could do was end up 7-6. In both of those years they lost games they should have won (MTSU, Miss. St., Duke). Had Vandy not beaten UT in 2005, Johnson probably wouldn't even be there anymore. His devotion to Chris Nickson last year almost cost him the season they had.

Hard to imagine a current SEC coach having the %#$@ to say that in confidence.

In fairness to Vandy, they could legitimately be better this year than they were last year. They return 18 starters. I do think Tennessee will beat them, but they can't afford to look past Vandy at all.

You're right. I can't help but have an affinity for VU, grandparents have season tickets and one of my best friends was All SEC there.

I have lots of friends who are Vandy fans and I really like Bobby Johnson, but...Vandy has always measured their success by whether or not they beat UT. Last time they beat UT and didn't make a bowl, they were satisfied with the win. Even when they started out 5-0 they were making comparisons to UT. Be a lot easier to respect them if their only goal wasn't beating UT. Worry about Vandy? Please. Dougherty hired Neyland to beat Vandy and we haven't looked back since!

The same Vandy that has beaten UT once since 1982? The same Vandy that cannot beat MTSU and will not play them out of fear? I don't know.....

An affinity for VU? Sorry VDVol; I have Vandy relatives as well, but I hate the smug self-righteousness of the Vandy fans. As a result, I hope that Commodore opponents pound the ever-loving crap out of them each and every game.

Put Vandy where they belong - CONF USA. They are dead weight in the SEC. At least in CONF USA they would be middle of the pack - maybe.

Did that "SEC Coach" (I think it is Mark Richt) remember that last year Tennessee had their worst time since 1988 and STILL beat Vandy. Vandy is better but by the time they play the Vols they are beat up and playing with 1 star athletes.
