I like your confidence here, and you've proven to be a poster worth listening to. I don't know much about WVU overall, but Grier and Stills concern me. Someone will have to step up and stop, or at least contain them. That, to me, is Job #1 for the defense.
WVU plays (I think) a 3-3-5 base. I'd expect them to crowd the line and dare whoever our QB is to beat them over the top. So being able to run against that front is going to be Job #2. If we can establish the run against WVU, then we can control the clock; control the pace; and throw when and where we want to. This is another critical "must do" for this game.
And then there is special teams. I can see this being a game where a big play on special teams tips the scales. So we've gotta play big on ST.
On paper, WVU has a decided advantage. If Pruitt and staff are the right choice, then we have them right where we want them.
Go Vols.
The outcome of the game will be decided by whose defense gets burned the most.
I'd like to think our D will be much much improved with a former DC as head coach, but then again we are playing with most of the same guys that produced the last 2 years of results (injuries not withstanding).
You can jump out to a much bigger lead early with an outstanding passing game which will be the best part of WVs game. They could easily have us down by 28 points by half time if our defensive secondary collapses and our O-line doesnt show up to help the offense and our QB situation is as bad as it may look to be.
We shall see, I guess. Tennessee has a way with pulling off these early season OOC wins.
