Tennessean Interviews Mike Hamilton

Besides the SPCA being filled with pit bulls from scared residents of Vicks old neighborhood? Everything is good. :good!:

(and that's not a joke)

I like Hamilton's comments.

Regardless what he really meant, making those comments coupled with a win this week over Georgia will more than likely take the heat off of Fulmer.

Once the savages realize the season isn't quite over yet, they will focus on Mike's comments until the next Tennessee loss. If that doesn't come this season, then all they will have to talk about is Hamilton, and he's not going anywhere.

It's a good ploy that a lot of managers, coaches, owners, teammates use all throughout sports.

Pretty shrewd, regardless if you agree with it.

It would be naive to underestimate the power of a loud crowd. Homefield advantage is definitely meaningful in the SEC. Again, I see no argument at all with your point about noise. The way it is phrased raises my blood pressure. There is nothing significant that I can do has a fan to give the Vols more talent, call plays, or make them perform any better in the long run. All I can do is raise hell when the opposing offense is on the field.

And furthermore, the stadium was very loud, for example, during parts of the 2005 season, when the defense was actually pretty good. Neyland is and always will be, even with the west side grey hairs and socialites, an extremly loud venue as long as their is something to cheer about. When the defense plain sucks and we can't run the ball, it gets kinda hard make noise.

Hamilton is right about one thing, some of the blame does lie with us. Negativity only breeds more negativity and we have been breeding it since the end of the 05 season. I have my differences with some of the staff and I am negative about some of the things they do, but I guarantee you that some take it to extremes. If we don't get over the 05 season QUICKLY, then its just gonna get worse if or when Fulmer leaves. I can't wait to see my Vols play week in and week out, win or lose. Some of us are stuck in the past, but figuring out if your stuck in 98 or 05 is where the problem lies.

Lol @ "I interact with the guy at the gas station or the dry cleaner."

I think he means the guy who owns the gas station...more specifically, the Pilot...

CPF is 4-8 vs. Steve Spurrier, 2-4 vs. Mark Richt, 1-2 vs. Nick Saban, and 0-3 vs. Urban Meyer.

That's a 7-17 record against our traditional SEC foes. A whopping .290 winning percentage.

Perhaps Mr. Hamilton should stop talking with the guy at the gas staion, or the one at the dry cleaners, and have a chat with the guy who's running the football program at UT.

go vols.

I'm tired of Mike Hamilton, everything he has done while AD has been for the rich donors. I'm the first to say that we need the donors, but I don't think we have 107,000 donors or season ticket holders. Mike Hamilton needs to wake up!

if MH will hire the football equivalent of Bruce Pearl to replace CPF all will be forgiven

I do know that this football team needs to recapture some of its "blue collar" spirit. The finesse team that the Vols have become is one of the biggest disappointments about the program. Listening to a running back from Penn State say that the Vols just didn't want to tackle him says it all.

In plain terms, after having a day to think about it, UT is in need of a "grassroots" revival. Bring some of the bluecollar spirit back to the team. Fat and happy is not working. Prosperity has led to complacency. The verbage used by MH may not have offended some. It raised my ire for one reason. CPF's inability to accept responsibility has been astounding. If he is working like heck, he is concentrating on the wrong areas because this football team keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over and over again.

I would not look for MH to crucify CPF in the middle of the season. It did not disappoint me that he did not come down harder on CPF. However, when he lays anything at the feet of the fans, who show up week after week (after a dreadful season in 05) and watch the same mistakes made repetitively, it makes me turns my stomach. Excuses and blame "throwing" have gotten us into this mess, and they ain't going to get us out of it.

Lex, I have to agree with you. Of course MH cant drop a bomb on Phil halfway through the season, but he didnt over the vote of confidence either. I was livid over the fact that he pointed the finger at the fans in any way, shape, or form. The fact that the first game of 06 was a sellout should speak volumes about our fanbase. Look how many fans made the trip to Cal after the Penn State debacle should exclude the fans from any derision. When the blame cup is passed around you can skip the Volnation.

The Pratt Pavilion, renovations to TBA, renovation plans for Neyland and Lindsey Nelson all benefit the fan experience and players of the respective teams.

Firing Buzz and hiring BP has certainly worked well for the fans.

Hamilton had to have meant noise factor. Unless the man is delusional thats all we can contribute except for money. According to him we are giving enough of that, the rich ones anyway.

I just want to apologize to Hamilton for the 2-2 season so far. I feel partly responsible and I'm going to try and do better.

Yeah me too. If i hadn't ate that voldog, i might have been able to tackle the punt returner before he got in the endzone.

a good AD should be money hungry. Money hungry = better coaching hires(right now the Athletic Dept is losing money in the football department it could have been making because of poor performances) = better bowls = more money.

your missing the point. i'm not arguing against his coaching hires. he did a great job with bruce pearl. but he also screwed alot of people out of their season tickets. bottom line is that hamilton appears to care more about his donars more than the casual fans that bleed orange and just like to attend the games.

If I were him I would be the same way. So does every major AD in the country. I guess it bothers some people but not me. :dunno:

it goes hand in hand i guess. i guess it just bothers me since dickey never showed it as much.

Main reason it doesn't bother me is because he seems to be doing a lot more than Dickey did. TBA is going to look amazing, Pratt will help the teams and Neyland is going to be amazing when they finish everything. All that plus the fact our MBB team appears to have years of success like we've never had before ahead of us I can't find a lot to complain about from a fan's perspective (excluding the football team).
