I actually sat in section 45 right in the heart of the Vol section. (that's just where the ticket I bough happened to be)
I sat with some of the coolest, laid back fans from a rival school that I can remember. Even though the game got out of hand, we were all talking about the SEC, NFL, Nascar...the point being that these were just good, down to earth people. It's all how we present ourselves. Oh by the way, a lot of these guys I was sitting with played high school ball last year at a school called Maryville high...I heard it's one of the better programs in Tenn.

You're right, every school has it's bad apples for fans. As a whole Tennessee fans are very courteous and easy going. I've never been to Gainesville, but the same was true at Georgia last year, the overwhelming majority of their fans were great, easy to talk to and made the experience very enjoyable, but there were some that were very rude and confrontational. As for the guys from Maryville, they have one of the top football programs in the state of TN. Even though they don't play in the highest division, they're in 4A and the top class is 5A, they have still won 4 or 5 straight state championships. Most likely they won state every single year they were on the team.
