1. What is the defense? It seems like Wilcox is going to use multiple sets this year to off set our depth issues. The question is can the defense learn the nuances and the details of multiple defensive sets in time to make it work? Do we have the personnel to pull it off?

2. The Linebacker position-We overlook the LB position. Last year, the position was decimated by injuries. We have guys with experience, but do we have enough depth this year? Does Wilcox have enough trust in the LB's to play four linebackers?

3. The development of the O-line- Obviously it's our biggest issue. Have projected starters Schofield and Thomas improve enough to be able the trenches in the SEC? Can JuWuan James handle the SEC as a freshman?

4. Taurean Poole...It's your time- Brown is gone. Taurean Poole, the job is yours. Hopefully is fumbling problems have been cured (seems like it), but the bigger question: Can he make something out of nothing? Hardesty's strength was being able to get 4-5 yards when the line didn't open up any holes. Is Poole good enough to be able make something out of nothing?

5. The DB situation- This is the least talked about situation going into the year. Art Evans (our #1 CB) was decent last year. We really have nobody else who is proven. Myles Jr. is gone, can Waggner step up? If we play some 3-3-5, do we have enough DB's to play well? I am excited to see Loften though.

6. Ted Meline- Guy has tons of talent...he is willing to play both sides. We have plenty of good players at WR. Our DB situation isn't the best. Do we move Meline to DB, or will he better suited to play WR? Curious to see what the staff does here.

7. Who will take the KO's & PR's? We have plently of options. Oku was solid last year. Jones is pretty decent, but do we need him too much at WR? Can Da'Rick translate his athleticism? Hunter has great speed, but can he catch the ball cleanly? I'm excited to see who we put back there.

8. WE HAVE KICKERS AGAIN!!!- Darr and Palardy are excellent, excellent kickers. Both guys have huge legs. We now don't have to worry about KO's that get to only the 10 and FG's that get blocked by 560 lb who can only jump six inches. That could win us a game or two this year.

9. Who is the QB? Both QB's didn't "overwhelm" in the Spring Game. Both guys have had the same time in the system. Here's the question though: Does Dooley go for it now or prepare for the future if Bray is the better QB? If Bray is slightly better than Simms, does he decide to protect our future QB and play Simms? Or does he decide to put out the best QB for the job?

10. How are the players? We forget about them through all this. Their on their 3rd coach. All three had different mindsets, agendas, and styles. They have been through college football hell. What is their mindset? Are they re-energized to go out and prove the world that UT is the best place to be, or do they go out and struggle feeling sorry for themselves. This is where the leaders need to step up.

Well guys and gals, it's football season. No matter what the situation, it's the best time of the year.

Go Vols! :hi:

Good news is fowlkes and sykes will be useful as 3-4 DES and well be playing only 2 lbs in a 3-4 formation

Any of y'all see J. Smith and Corey Miller playing a lot? With different looks, maybe blitzing in Wilcox's system? Hat, you think they will?

#9 - Dooley will play the best 11 regardless of classification
#10 - by all accounts, the players seem to be a tighter knit group than at any time in the past 3 years and Dooley will use the "us against them" and the "no one expects us to be good" as motivation if needed.

Nice post, zjc!... A football thread!

Kick returns: I'd like to see Hunter and Rogers on kick returns. Whoever is there will get some reps. We need these guys to field deep balls on offense as well.

Defense: JJ should be the headliner there. Teague could move over. They'd make a great pair of hard hitters.

Kicking and punting: Palardy and Darr. All of sudden we're in great shape. Just in time for a lot of work with punting and field goal attempts.

Offense: Poole will get a serious workout now that Brown is gone.

Both Bray and Sims will get reps. There's no way one QB gets through this season once the OL starts taking injuries (Oregon and UF games will take one or two of them, then we're hurting).

So it's definitely TP over Oku?

They're both going run a lot. Who lines up first won't matter that much.

By most reports though, Poole is man with a Hardesty-like mission on his mind. That's the kind of running it will take. If they don't hit these holes fast, they won't go anywhere.

Exception: We also have the perfect O line for a guy like Walter Payton, who could just pick his way through defenders without any help.

Hitting the holes is one thing running backs learn more as they play a lot more. Might take a bit.

As far as the QB situation goes I won't be expecting a huge year from them. I can see this year's offense looking like Alabama's with us running the ball a lot to take pressure off of the QB.

Receivers have veterans if they can stay healthy and young studs. If we get in rhythm, let em sling it.

The Linebacker position has tons of depth its just a matter which freshmen Dooley is gonna redshirt.

Don't count out Jerod Askew and Greg King either at LB. Also Malik Johnson is a nice addition to our pass rush rotation.

Now if we could only find an Oline...

Montori Hughes has told the media that Wilcox has had him playing Mike in some sets just to bullrush from there
