Tee Martin receives UT HC endorsement from USC

You all were ready to burn him at the stake when he turned down a coordinator job here. Let's be real - if he wasn't a former player, his name wouldn't be mentioned at all. We need someone with HEAD COACHING experience.

He'll get stomped here...He has no clue how to run a team yet and training on the job in the SEC is fatal...Don't want to ruin his HC career before it even gets started.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but I really don't understand this sentiment. Phillip Fulmer was an offense of coordinator with no head coach experience when he took over.

Mike Gundy has no SEC experience and can't recruit the way that Tee can.

Pruitt and Lance Thompson have both been mentioned and they are coordinators with no head coach experience.

I agree with the poster who said the guy has one everywhere he went. You can't sell that short.

Is this the same Tee who turned us down before and decided to stay in LA because his wife didn't like it in Knoxville?

You realize what we are asking him this go around don't you?

Why would he take WR coach under Butch vs WR coach at USC? Especially given that his whole interview was PR Stunt by Butch. Also, that shows huge smart judgement to not tank his career by partnering up with Butch.

Secondly, getting offered Head Ball Coach at his Alma Mater where he won a Natty is completely different.

Don't be that naive to think this is anywhere close to being similar to 2012/2013

This, neither Tee, nor UT, deserve this right now. It would ruin both. His time will come. But it's not now.

Would be all in for Tee if he had successful HC experience under his belt. We don't have the time for Tee to learn on the job. He would not come in and dominate immediately in the SEC.

Wide Receiver coach is what he was supposedly offered.

He was never being considered for OC.

Nobody will do that buddy.

This team is soft AF.

No, I thought in 1998 he would do a great job as QB. This is entirely different. There is a possibility he would kill it. There is a possibility he would be awful. IMO, right now, he would me average at best and we can't afford to take that chance with the situation we are in.

Gundy has an incredible record at a power 5 school. He would be an amazing hire, especially after what just happened.

Not a serious candidate. Screw this idea of bringing in a Tennessee guy. That means nothing. Get an actual good head coach.

Maybe in 15 years or so we can get Tee and not be laughed at.

So.. what if Tee totally bombs due to lack if experience??

Ask a 3x Rose Bowl coach at Arkansas how much it matters. Ask Georgia if it matters.

Sometimes you gotta take a risk. After Kiffin, people demanded HC experience and we ended up with two idiots. Dooley was a joke, while Butch, nobody’s first choice, had an impressive record and 10 win seasons.

If you hire a quality coach like Gundy- you go with him. If not, there’s no guarantee experience will help. Especially with no SEC ties.

Don’t care he hasn’t been HC. Tee has been a winner at every step in his life.

I don’t want Gundy or Brohm or anyone who doesn’t get it.

Tee gets it.

Gundy is a proven winner. I'll take a proven winner over a coordinator any day. But if it doesn't work, Tee would be a good fall back

You mean the guy that turned down Butch Jones and his dysfunctional offense? So far as I can tell, Tee made a great decision for himself and his family. I can't fault him for that.

How nice of you to want to hold him back....if he's ready, he's ready. He will have a great mentor in CPF.

His offense is ranked top 15 and our seasoned coaches was bottom 5. So there is that....
Its a gamble that I'm willing to take.

What has he done that tells you he's ready to be a HC at an elite football school? He's not well liked out there to begin with and his players have called him out for his playcalling. He's only in his 2nd year as an OC and isn't ready to be a big time FB coach yet. Even Peyton doesn't want him as our HC. Maybe 5 years down the road but not even close right now.
