The only way to know if he's ready is for him to have a chance to prove it.

Schiano for some reason was considered "ready". In 11 years as a HC, he was barely above .500, had a 28-48 Big East record, did not win his conference, and really didn't do anything that "screams" elite. He would have been a hire very similar to Jones. "Respected" around the profession but really... those are self-serving endorsements.

In 11 years, Schiano only had a winning conference record 4 times. Seven times he was unable to beat the majority of Big East teams on his schedule. He gets credit for lifting Rutgers as far as he did... but like Jones he hit a hard ceiling.

Either might be "the hire" that fixes everything. But the reality is that once it became necessary to fire Fulmer... UT was always going to take a ride on the coaching carousel. Too many don't understand that and think you can "get off" simply by hanging on to a bad coach like Jones. The only way you get off is to continue to fire guys who don't perform until you find "the guy".

The next guy could be the "savior" of the program or we could be going through this again in 3 or 4 years. It is necessary to the process if you want a championship program.

These two would bring stability and ability. Who else you got?

Easy to reel off a list. MUCH more difficult to list those who would risk unnecessary potential career suicide, when many are already making $2MMish, paying their bills just fine in college town USA.

Additionally, for Tee, CA taxes and cost of living would be a significant raise moving to TN, even if he kept his same salary from USC.

What SPECIFIC things on Schiano's resume make him the right hire for UT?

The truth is that his resume and proven ability are about the same as Jones'.... Jones was never good enough to be hired by UT.

Additionally, I think it's hilarious that most recognize that Jim Bob's next move is NFL HC. For some reason, NFL has no problem getting coordinators who have no HC experience, but can't be done in college?

Agree. Rutgers' all time winning percentage is better than Shiano's percentage at Rutgers. His HC abilities seem average at best based on his record.

And frankly I am not sure he’s ready for it. But in our current state I’d take him in a heart beat. And you know every booster and former player and coach would tell him call them if you need anything at all.
