Since my $100/month cable bill doesn't provide me with enough entertainment, I would like to hook my laptop to my HDTV to view netflix and the like.

I have a 47" Visio LCD HDTV and a Dell Inspiron laptop using Comcast ISP over a wireless router.

I can search google, but first hand experience is what I'm really looking for.

Isn't VGA standard def?
VGA is analog, but it is capable of much higher resolutions than HD res.

I think you're confused by the difference between analog and digital vs. the difference between SD and HD.

rwemyss is correct.

Also, if you're streaming Netflix, you aren't exactly getting an HD picture. Although, a VGA cable would more than handle it (in case you ever have HD content on the laptop you want to stream to the TV).

thanks guys. went to bestbuy and picked up a VGA and 3.5 audio cable. Now I can't get the netflix instant movie to start. It's always something.

And yes, I should have just bought a roku device, but I thought I'd try it without the big investment. I have $20 invested in this so far.
