Tariq Owens

Tariq is the x factor for the season IMO
I'm excited hope this team over achieve and shock everyone. I think they will more talented then what people is expecting once they learn how to win on the college level. You never know what they can do.

is this kid quick off the ground? I haven't paid enough attention to check. Quick leapers with long arms are of course brutal to shoot over often. Question is, does he have to gather himself and telegraph his jump like Hall, or is a quick and explosive leaper like a Carmichael will be.
The quicker off the floor, the longer he can wait to make sure the shooter commits to his shot and his reach buys him even more time, even if tenths of seconds.

Very quick leaper excellent shot blocker. I've seen him in AAU. I'm sure UT will enhance what he do and then some. Should be good to watch him develop

Haislip wasn't near the shot blocker Varnado was, best season was 1.8bpg, Varnado averaged over 4.5bpg.

True, he wasn't, but it's more than a little unfair to just simply say that Haislip wasn't nearly the shot blocker as the all-time NCAA career shot-block leader. That's a pretty lofty comparison, and hardly a reason to discount Haislip's shot-blocking ability. Haislip was a good shot blocker in his time. Was he equal to Varnado? No, of course not. But, he was much more advanced as an offensive player and had much better range (even out to 3-point range). Those two skills, by your own admission, are skills displayed by Owens.
