The UNC Tarheels are ranked 23rd this week and are 1 and 5 on the road and have lost 2 in a row. They are currently trailing Wake forrest (who is Unranked) tonight, yet they are still in the top 25. They are 12-6.

If an SEC school were 12-6 they would be buried so far down the polls they would be fielding questions of their tourney possibilities.

I am sick of all Polls, They are complete BS even the ones that rank recruits.:banghead2:

USC lost 5 games this year and will be a pre-season top 5 team while Cincinatti will be nowhere to be found and they finished 12-1. It's rediculous!!! JMO :furious3:

they don't deserved to be ranked..but half of those losses were to top 5 teams on the road

I think some of the voters are voting for them based on a) the UNC name on the front of their jerseys, and b) the talent of the players on their roster. Neither of those things qualifies them to be ranked, but that's life in the college polls for you.

Is it really something to get that worked up about? It's not like 23 is that good.

Being from Western NC, I have dual allegiances. UT Footbal/UNC Basketball. When I was growing up, chances were if there was a college football game on TV, it was UT, so I've been a Vol fan as far back as the Andy Kelly years. Plus, many of the WNC football players that were highly sought wound up at UT, so the UT fanbase here is substantial. UT is closer than many of the other regional schools as well, and Western Carolina typically doesn't provide much to cheer for. I didn't follow UT basketball so much, as it was never on TV. What was readily available was UNC basketball, so they've always been my basketball team. It frustrates me watching them this year. I know Ol' Roy knows what he's doing, and the players have talent, but they lack toughness and don't appear to be able to function playing "team basketball". It's like they have two left feet. Anyway, long story short, it pains me to agree with the OP, but UNC has no business being ranked right now. I knew they'd take some lumps along the way, but I thought they'd be much better than they are currently. Hard to b**** too much as they are the defending champs, but they'll be lucky to make the tourney this year, playing like they are. CBP, on the other hand, has the Vols playing great, especially considering the off the court drama this season. Keep it going Vols!

Can't blame you. Just attempting to offer evidence to the contrary of being a "bandwagon" fan. I have season tickets for UT football, but I've never been to a UT basketball game. I've only seen a handful of Carolina basketball games in person in my life, and not one Carolina football game. At least Dook lost last night too. They're overrated also, but that's nothing new.

Im the same. Im a huge Tennessee football fan and usually go to most of the home games during the season. When it comes to basketball UNC is just what I grew up watching. When I started watching I didnt know about their tradition and how good they were in the past. I was too young. I havent got to go to a game yet but cant wait till I get to. As far as the rankings sometime you have been so dominant in the past its hard for them to take you out of the top 25. Im jk but for all the dook fans...Team of the decade, Player of the decade, and Coach of the decade. How does that make you all feel? As Jay Bilas (Former Dook Player) said UNC has dominated the ACC for 5 years. One off year will be ok especially after you just won the National Championship. :D

It's wonderful to see the Tarheels struggling. It's also a wonderful thing to see Ol' Roy call out his fan base for leaving early versus Wake. He really crossed the line with his postgame comments. It also shows you that for a Roy Williams coached team to be successful, they need an all world PG.

He didn't have very many "all world" point guards at Kansas. Jacque Vaughn was good, Kirk Hinrich was ok, but that was about it. Quentin Thomas ran the team pretty well when Lawson was out. Carolina's problems this season are (1) they're soft, and (2) they don't have a reliable "go to" guy that can get his own shot anytime they need it. If they had a Hansbrough type banger inside, they'd be in much better shape. Too much finesse.

:lolabove: You must be a Duke fan  Maybe one day one of Coach Ks team will make it to the sweet 16 and compete again instead of getting beat by 30 points. :birgits_giggle:

Good post. You are 100% correct. They have to get tougher.

Wonder how much longer K will coach Duke. He probably wants to break Knight's all time winning record of 902 wins and Duke will probably allow him to stay to get the record, regardless of how well they do.
