Tampa two

He moved from DE to LB. Do you think he'd go back to being a DE? We have some good DEs in Martin and Vlad, but I guess another wouldn't hurt. Not trying to be a smart-ass I'm just wondering what your thinking about his situation with the new staff.

I think he fits better as an End in the Tampa 2. But we will just have to wait and see. BTW, Vlad Richard is a guard.

I am not a football defense expert but did Chavis not run his defense as a close resemblance to the Tampa 2? Just wondering how different the defense that Berry and company already know will be compared to what the Kiffins bring with them.

Chavis often sets the D in the T2 design but often due to the offenses we face will drop out of it to help cover the option type offenses that are popular now, Against FSU in the Fiesta bowl we were in the T2 a lot. But the biggest difference is that Chavis will drop the LB's with more regularity than a typical T2 scheme. Berry is very much designed for the T2. In fact I would bet MK's mouth drools with the thought of having a guy with his speed, skill and hitting power.

I've always thought that the Tampa-2 defense was pretty strong against misdirection. Now I've always heard that the best way to beat it was to run up the middle and then go over the top, but you have to have a serious run game to do that.

One of the main things that Tampa-2 depends on is teaching everyone to follow the ball, and gang tackle.

These two are great and all, but it will be burned much worse against misdirection, play fakes and option-style football than just plain ol' assignment football.

Haha thanks for pointing that out. Sifting through the roster early in the morning and trying to put together a sentence after 4 hrs of sleep proved to be more than I could handle today. :)

We've all done it.

I think the biggest concern for CMK and having the personal to run his defense will be the lack of BIG run-stuffing defensive tackles. Too bad there isn't some JC talent that we could bring in and help right away, like Saban did to cure his nose tackle woes.

Well hopefully some of the younger guys decide to buy in to what they're preaching and start stepping up and taking on some leadership roles next season. Ayers graduating hurts the DE crop, he definitely played up to his potential this year. Ben Martin will be a big key to the D next year IMO, the guy is awesome I just don't think he got enough snaps this year.

Chavis ran a version of it, the Mustang package

Actually the Mustang is a type of prevent. The Mustang adds a DB and gives cushion to the WR's. The Mustang actually invites teams to run the ball in order to run out the clock. It is just a tad more aggressive than the typical prevent.

Our new defense should be called the "FULL MONTE"

This is my vote and what I will call it.

I hope our new defensive staff can either; a.) teach McCoy to play better pass coverage, or b.) cut down as much as possible on the amount of pass coverage he is invovled in.

I have a feeling that the reason the spread is not run in the pros is because people have figured out a way to stop it. I have faith that monte would be able to come up with a way to shut it down

Yeah it's called speed. That will be the key to our recruiting classes

You mean the Tennessee - 2, right?

No, the Tennessee Two was Johnny Cash's band, before he went to the Tennessee Three.

FWIW, one feature of the Tampa 2 is to disguise what the defensive play call really is, in other words you show the QB an alignment then shift to another coverage in hopes of breaking up a pass or better yet getting an int.
