It is obviously not set in stone, that Monte is coming to UT, but I would like to hear some opinions of his ability to finally shut down the Florida O for us, as far X's and O's go. Does anyone in NCAA football currently run the Tampa 2 or a version of it, or would we have a cool toy that the other kids don't have, for a change?

uh...let's just say that Eric Berry will have another banner-year if we implement the Tampa 2. I'd love to see it in the SEC. It will not do a lot to stop people like Tim Tebow...but Alabama would sure never have a huge passing day against us again.

in the Tampa 2, the middle linebacker usually shadows the QB (if he is a runner), I remember watching the Bucs and the Falcons with Vick at QB, he tried that running stuff, Brooks lit him up and he didn't run the rest of the game.. trying to find video of that hit now.. if I find it I'll post it up

Eric Berry might hurt someone playing the the Tampa 2 defense...Lots of movement and it can confuse a ball carrier..I would LOVE to see it installed at UT

i would assume that given the space a safety covers in the Tampa 2, that Berry would be making alot of hits at at a full speed gallop?:eek:hmy::popcorn:

Why is everyone seeming to forget about Morley? He has good coverage skills, can blitz, big hitter. Seems to fit the profile of a T2 safety

This website is a more visual explanation.

ESPN - 'Simple' scheme nets big gains for trio of defenses - NFL

Essentially, from what I've read-- it requires lots of quick, hard-hitters. In other words, Eric Berry would be perfect as a corner, linebacker, or safety in this system.

Pros: Very Simple; Covers short Yardage situations dominantly; minimizes man-to-man coverage.

Cons: Deep middle and Deep perimeter areas are areas of weakness; relies on the four lineman to pressure QB as there is minimal blitzing in the scheme.

We'll have to have an athletic MLB that can drop back into deeper zone coverage than the average defense. If Chris Donald can get it, he would be perfect for it.

His coverage skills aren't very good and he is a piss poor tackler. He might be a better fit at corner in the Tampa 2 system.

Its ashame Willingham is graduating, the Tampa 2 would fit him perfectly at corner.

With the Tampa 2 it is imperative to have lineman that can shed blocks and get to the QB. There is little blitzing in this defense, so the lineman have to handle their men well for it to work.
