Could you imagine if Tee was named the HBC exactly 20 years after he led us to the National Title if we end up whiffing on some of our top name candidates?

On some user made hype video on Youtube, you would hear the chorus to that J Cole song "I'm coming home. I'm coming home. Tell the world, I'm coming home." It would be magical.

Tee now has connections in this game to assemble a really awesome (and heavily Tennessee linked in) staff In addition, you wouldn't have to pay him as much as you would have to pay other people on our list such as Gruden, Kelly, Stoops, etc.

I think that he would be an awesome recruiter, but my greatest concern would be his lack of head coaching experience. I think that he could attract some great assistant coaches, however and that would be the thing that can push him over the top and make him successful again.

When asking hypotheticals, not only would Tee get it done, but he would win the Natty in year one.

But honestly, I think if given a blank check to assemble staff, he could be very successful. The good thing with him is there is no chance he would bolt for another job.

Believe Tee is on his way. still too inexperienced to be a HC. give it a couple years, let him get his feet wet as a HC elsewhere 1st

Tee is a great guy and a good OC but as a HC, I don't think it's worth the risk.

Tennessee is in the position right now to hire a proven HC.

We have the talent and all the pieces right there.

You open up the check book to guys like Kelly, Patterson, Peterson, someone who has great experience as a HC.

If we want to win right now, we go with a proven HC! Not coordinators who we're hoping that'll work out in the long run.

I've never understood this fascination with people from the program. Look at the top coaches and tell me who coaches their alma mater.

Sabin
Dabo
Urban
Jimbo

Tee would be a total roll the dice. There is no way I would hire him now. The cupboard is still stocked. We are still a historically tip program with money and top facilities.

Stoops
Kelly
Peterson
Petrino

If they don't work out go with someone with actual head coaching experience. Frost, norvelle, Fuentes, or whoever is the up and comers

Here is the problem. There is only one "Blank Check" guy out there and that is Chip Kelly. Patterson and Petersen aren't leaving TCU and Washington.

Urban is a graduate of Ohio State. Didn't play there but has the connection.

Saban played at weaka$$ Kent State.

Dabo played at Bama and is going to get a blank check and open arms from Bama when Saban retires.

Jimbo played at Salem.

So Tee has something over them that they don't have. Tee also was the natty winning qb here.

To say the Alma mater thing doesn't matter is a joke. And don't bring up the whole WR Coaching job fiasco. Butch only offered him as a publicity stunt. Tee telling Butch no is just another reason to trust Tee's judgement. Best career choice he has made.

Pure speculation.

Is it unlikely? Sure but if Tennessee is truly serious about winning, money shouldn't an issue at all if they're willing to leave for a certain price.

Petersen turned big job after big job down to stay at Boise. Washington has always been his dream job.

Patterson is in the best place possible for him because Stoops left OU and Texas is down. Lets see what OU does once Mayfield graduates.

Patterson is in the position to rule the Big12 for the next 4-5 years.

I do not think anyone knows.

He has been very successful at what he does, and has been a good talent developer.

The main prob is tenure. We do not know what he could do as a HC in charge of everything.

He is ranked as the #9 recruiter in the nation (and some above him are HC's)

I just don't get it...who cares where he played? They are either a great coach or they aren't. Will they do a better job because it's their alma mater? No. Tee could be great but he doesn't deserve the keys to this program with where this program has been the last 10 years

Butch was at a disadvantage from the get go because he wasn't a Tennessee guy, have the connections, and wasn't an SEC caliber guy.

Regardless of what people say on here, Tee would definitely be welcomed by the fanbase, former players, and most importantly, Tennessee royalty that includes Fulmer, Peyton, Majors among others.

He would also unify the fanbase.

I am not saying we have no search and just offer him the job, but my top 4 has him in it. And just for the record, my top 4 is as follows:

1-Chip Kelly
2-Dan Mullen
3-Tee Martin
4-Les Miles

Like Tee, but let's go all in on Coach Jeff Brohmm! He is Bobby Petrino without the baggage.

Hasn't done a thing. Also, we aren't going to pay Butch and staff 10+ million to not coach here while buying out Brohm to not coach at Purdue.

Purdue just hired him......he didn't go to LSU, or Va Tech, or even Cal.......he got hired by and went to Purdue.

Do we really want a coach that was just hired by Purdue?

Sure maybe if he had a few good/great seasons there, but now?

I need more than just 3 seasons as a HC and at WK to want him at Tennessee right now.

Right now I think the only guy who would realistically come would be Petrino. He would likely jump at the chance to get back in the SEC.

Everytime someone posts something interesting they seem to pull a butch and shoot themselves in the foot mentioning Gruden or Fulmer possibly being the next coach here.

My realistic coaching order
Chip Kelly > Dj Durkin > Tee Martin

Patterson and Peterson ain't leaving, Bob Stoops ain't coming back, Petrino has a 6 million buyout and isn't loyal.

Considering that we just got slaughtered by a major traditional power who hired an alum who had no HC experience... and Tee is a better recruiter than Kirby ever was. Come to think of it, UGA's last two hires were coordinators. HC experience is nice, but it can be overrated.
