With Tamari's medical situation and all the concerns associated with that, where does Kellie go from here with assembling the lineup? Tamari was a shot blocker extraordinaire. Opposing players both feared and respected her presence inside. Most opposing teams changed the way they played because of her. It was rare that Tamari was allowed to go one-on-one. She always had a couple of players hanging all over her. How does Kellie replace a player like Tamari?

The one benefit in all this I think we can play small ball a bit more which one would hope might alleviate turnovers a bit (and inject some energy) if we run more of a guard/wing oriented lineup, not to say we don't have post depth because we do and fairly talented as well.

Bigger question might be how without Key (and possibly Jackson) do we intend to stop SC later in the season. Tho that was always going to be an issue.

I wasn't all that worried about them if we started playing to potential. Probably others are.

TN should not focus on SC i think even with Jackson until that game. Right now i think the best lineup with Jackson: Powell,Horston,Jackson,Suárez,Hollingshead, Now without Jackson : Powell,Horston,Puckett,Suárez,Hollingshead,

We play for key the rest of the season just as we did for Keyen Green. This should motivate the entire team if nothing else does. One of their own not having the opportunity to work hard and play for her teammates should lit a fire in everyone within the WBB program. GLV

We will be fine. She was in such a depleted state that we had pretty much been playing without the version of her you describe for much of the year anyway. Franklin, Hollingshead and Striplin will get more minutes. Puckett can also spend a bit more time in the post.

If it tightens up the rotation and brings the team together in the face of adversity we might even play better.

The place where we are most likely to notice the absence is against teams with big posts, and there aren't a lot of players that size.

But looking back on it, TK had one game where she seemed energetic and her old self, while in the rest of them she really struggled. It was a night and day difference. I guess that was the nature of her ailment. Anyway, it would be really nice to see the team come together and dedicate the rest of the season to Tamari. Her health is the only really important thing here.

Small ball could be the way to go with plenty of fast break opportunities and wearing down the opponents in the process.

Franklin should be off concussion protocols by now.....right?
On franklin kellie said she gets dayily reports on protocols. in one of pressers after game. Was getting them on jill. hope they no more to get reports on. and no more injurys vols had their fair share. For that matter hope rest ncaa teams have less injurys as possible.

As much as I hate the news for Key and the team, I do think there is a chance that this additional adversity will bring the team closer and more focused. It is possible that the different types of adversity they have faced could break them, but I think we have the right coach to model how to persevere through adversity no matter what one might think of her coaching shortcomings.

Basketball-wise, we will miss Key but we are uniquely situated this year with Hollinghead, Stiklen and even Pucket and Franklin playing center at times. Most teams we play don't have a skilled monster center, so we can pick and choose are best matchups.

What happens next?

We pray for Ms. Key!
There are really good medicines for DVT now. Up until a few years ago rat poison was used for blood thinner. I pray the cause is easily treatable as it was in my case. The cure rate is very high. Usually there isn't much to fear for recurrence in later life but not rushing back into basketball action or other heavy excercise is normal action taken.

We had a somewhat conventional lineup with Key - a dominant defensive center. We tried not to switch screens and funnel traffic into the paint where Key could affect shots.

Now we have a very abnormal team. Our posts are better 3 point shooters than most of our guards. On defense, we can now switch all screens but we will need to play more Barnes style defense: aggressive help, rotate, and recover. We can't allow drive-bys anymore and need to pick up more steals. On offense, we need to use our good shooting posts to open up the paint for Horston, Jackson, and Powell. We need to shoot the 3 liberally and take many more 3-point attempts than we have been.

I hope that Striplin gets more minutes. She could be a stretch 5 if she gets her confidence up to take the shot more often.

She does a lot for the team even without shooting. Karo and Jill can handle the 5 spot. We just need to figure out the other four spots. Once we get to January, Horston can handle most of the 2 spot minutes.
