in you guys' opinion has our talent level dropped off? Is this more a problem with coaching or with the players just not being as good as they used to?

Player development is on the coaches. We have the talent just not the right coaches to bring it out.
Point in case what in the world is Larry Slade doing coaching our Db's????

No attitude, our guys are scared to go on a bus ride. Ryan karl at linebacker is a joke. D-line was sleep walking. JPW played out of his mind, but our defense had a lot to do with that. Chavis can't make adjustments in game.

the talent level is there. Say what you want about recruiting services being accurate or not, but USC, LSU, and UF have no problem with their top 5 recruiting classes. UT does. Development lies on the shoulders of the coaches and they aren't getting it done

If there are any remaining Fulmerites on board, I can't wait to hear them

(in other words, I'm paging Beef and IE)

Its not the talent drop Fulmer still brings in good players. the difference is the quality of coaching in the SEC, particularly the SEC east.

talent level dropped off??? not unless the big orange has been scammed by a paul newman-robert redford quality sting. hell, every year it seems the vols are in the top ten, the top five as often as not. not all those studs could be flops without some real help. now, ask about the coaching level.

We still have the talent... all along it has been about developing the talent we get from high school. that's the problem

Foster was tearing it up at RB, why he didnt get the ball more surprised me. also after seeing hardesty last week i was very surprised to see coker play at RB over him... the defense was on the field too much. no big plays, no turnovers ... remember when we could win on the road?

There's no question the talent level is not where it was in the 90s. But the coaching staff share the responsibility for it dropping off. Another thing to consider and a big time challenge to whoever is brought in, is that recruiting will not get any easier for Tennessee. Fulmer used to rake in talent from all over the southeast, but that isn't happening anymore. Spurrier is locking up South Carolina, Reicht locking up GA, Sabana and Tuberville locking up Alabama, and now with Butch Davis at UNC he'll start raking in the recruits from NC. Couple that with how poor high school football is in Tennessee, and its going to be a challenge in the coming years to get big time recruits.
