Taking a look at our roster and recruits

What I’m trying to do guys is, who is going to be here on the offensive lineman left, and who will start? I’m having a very difficult time trying to figure out our starters, backups, and even if Chance Hall is coming back? Jack Jones?

Tally up all offensive linemen, then subject those on the right, to determine those left (but don't include any centers).

The numbers are scarry. With coaching I think we can piece together a decent starting 5. If the injury bug hits it will make for a really long season. I wonder how Alexis Johnson would do at guard.

dunno. maybe it's time to see what all the hub bub is about paul bain and give him a shot on the other side....:)

in all seriousness, there's just not a lot to pull from if you need OL. if there's a place to look it's TE or on the DL, and going to the 3-4, it at least gives you, numbers wise, a place to take a look and see if there's something there to pluck away.

dunno tho. all speculation. but guard and center are a worry.

Pruitt and staff have one hell of a messed up jigsaw puzzle to try to figure out.

I can't even imagine how many endless hours of film each position coach and coordinator have watched just to try to figure out who should be decent at each position.

Then the meetings with each player to try to sell them on the idea that they can make them a much better player at a different position.

Then the kids really have to believe the coaches and buy in 100% that their new position will give them their best chance to make it to the NFL.

Pruitt and staff have a much, MUCH tougher job to do in trying to totally rebuild our program.

Sad thing is that most Vols fans can't see this reality and understand that it really is going to take a few good years of recruiting the right types of players for every position to get this roster flipped and to teach the players all the right things to do to the point that they really know what they're doing and can go out, play fast and make solid plays and execute correctly.

Being patient is one of the hardest things to do for me so I understand how our fanbase is.

I just hope we don't run off what appears to be our 1st really good coaching staff since the Fulmer days.

May God bless and help us all.

Bear Bryant used to say that Neyland was a great coach NOT because he could beat you with his players but rather he could take your players and beat you with his or something to that effect.

If Pruitt is the coach that we think he can be, they will figure it out this spring and in fall camp and the Vols will be back to a winning season and on their way to competing for a SEC Championship.

Agree. Looking at the roster there isn't anyone at te with the size to help out on the ol. That leaves the dl. There are a few guys in the 280-300 range who could maybe add some depth. Picou, Bain, Crosby, and Williams all come to mind.

Who is "we?" I am in the category (possibly with only one member) who has no idea what to expect from the new staff. I have observed the general mediocrity of the Saban coaching tree (smart excepted), particularly in how it has intersected with the UT program over the last six or so years.

Do what? Strongly disagree. What you basing that on?

Performance. If Richmond was that bad, he would’ve never been our left tackle. Jones, Tatum, Smith, someone else would’ve been there. Tatum is good too. Go back and watch them. Our issue on the oline wasn’t a lack of talent, it was injuries.

If Hall, Jones, and Boulware were all back, we’d have a very good offensive line next year.

I guess you don’t follow College Football very closely. Pruitt is a winner, he has transformed average or below average defenses at FSU and Georgia into winners. FSU doesn’t win a BCS Championship without him. His defense at Alabama last season was arguably better than Kirby Smart’s when he was the DC at Alabama. Pruitt is an all star coach with an excellent resume. He’s an excellent recruiter with ties all over the south and elsewhere. Based on his resume and credentials, he’s the best football coach UT has hired since Johnny Majors. Fulmer thinks he can be a winner here or he certainly would NOT have hired him, and that’s good enough for me.

We just disagree then. Hopefully you’re right here and Friend gets these guys playing up to SEC standards as a group. To this point imo, Smith is the only one who has shown both the talent and ability to play at the high level we need.

Fulmer was better than Majors...

Marjor's came to UT after just winning a mythical national championship and his starting RB won a Heisman Trophy.

On paper, UT may NEVER hire a coach with those credentials ever again.

Fulmer had plenty of potential but no experience as a head coach, no title and no HT winner.

Majors was a home run. Fulmer was a solid double.

You don't have to have 4 and 5 stars to have a productive line. The fact is Richmond, Tatum, Johnson, and Smith were all 4 star or better.
The weight room is where Oline are made. Mainly with your heavy lifts like bench and squat and deadlift.
That is where guys like Tatum and Richmond are behind. Tatum, at his height should have been over 300 a long time ago. Smith was physically ready day one.

There is no reason with the right S&C that these guys shouldn't experience big gains.

The guy is not a miracle worker, give him time, and it will take time. I'm like everyone else and sick of having to say the same thing every 5 years (for the last 10 years ). It's like a flip house that 3 other people started before you, with their own ideas of what it takes to make it the house of everyone's dream, only to find it just made it worse. Pruitt, maybe or not be the answer. I've loved the Vols for a long time and still (and will) just wait and see. But give the man time.

Not getting my hopes up. There were some on here who were too optimistic about Kiffen because of his dream team coaching staff.
Then there were some on here who were excited about Dooley because he was a position coach for Saban, he played college football and his father is a legend
Then there were those who said that BUTch was a winner everywhere he went
I am staying even keeled and waiting for results until I get excited
