Tailgating at vandy

I was told that tailgating is not permitted in Centennial Park anymore. Evidently LSU trashed the place a few years ago.

Not surprising. My daughter is still pissed about the year they won the SEC and drove down to trash Auburn's campus on their way back to the swamps.

Sad but true. Once John Ward ,the VOL Network, P.O.T.S. Band, UT cheerleaders & thousands of Vol fans had the pregame show & a pep rally there. Great day.

Centennial Park has limited parking and they want the park to be available for park visitors. Also, Metro Parks don't allow alcohol unless you have a permit. If you want free parking, you have to move several blocks south of Blakemore and east of Natchez to get away from the resident only curbside parking. Obey the signs and if a resident tells you not to park in front of their house just keep driving. We have a massive city-wide issue with car break-ins. I wouldn't leave anything in my car that I can't live without. If I drive to the game, I will probably park either along Magnolia and walk though Hillsboro Village or off 21st near San Antonio Taco Co. and cut across the campus by the law school. Either way it's a good 1-1.5 mile stroll.

I did not really help with the tailgating question. I've seen visitors set up near the baseball stadium. You can pay to park at Eakin School on Fairfax although I don't know how they feel about alcohol. There are a few property owners on Blakemore that will rent a grass parking spot in their side yard. There is a small pay parking lot behind the Panerra on 21st. Vandy owns a couple of parking garages on 25th Ave near the Hospitals where you can pay 15 or 20 bucks to park and they might let you hang around but you're not going to be able to have a big set up or grill in there. Personally, I'd park on the East side of the campus somewhere off 21st/Hillsboro Road and just pop into a few pubs until you find something you like (there are probably 50 or more choices in a 2-3 mile stretch).

IF I were the city government, I'd reverse that decision about the use of Centennial Park around the bandshell and allow some limited activities over there as they did in the old days. It was fun and generated interest. In fact, if I were the mayor, I'd make this every-other-year game a Nashville event, a happening. The city is all about collecting as much tourism money as it can.
Especially since Vanderbilt, unlike every other SEC school, has no real tailgating culture. You have to pay for one of their tents, which are set up on the asphalt of Natchez Trace. A very small number of Commodore fans set up in the parking lot on the west side of Natchez Trace. The old parts of the VU campus are pretty, but off limits except for walking through. I get the feeling they would rather you arrive at the last minute and leave at the final horn. Even their own fans.
Finally, I've seen some opposing fans set up tents in the grassy strip at Harris-Hillman School, along Blakemore, but you definitely have to get the permission of the school volunteers who are out there collecting for parking.

So if you're willing to pay $10-20 for parking, where would you recommend?

Any area to scalp some tickets. We are driving over without any. I know we can do 3rd party site if needed. Thanks.
