Was saying that some of the criticism of the coaches might not be fair because they are limited to Dobbs ability as a passer. He was talking about how our WRs do not run a complete route tree and how there are certain routes it appears they don't have confidence in Dobbs ability to throw.

He was saying he definitely think Dobbs gives us the best chance to win but the coaches cannot make him a better passer at this point.

Also, they need to let him throw it downfield farther. If he can hit those passes to Malone it will keep the defense honest.

Dobbs would be a lot better passer is the damn OL would block, its as simple as that! Its hard to hit WRs when you have 2 sec to get the ball off. Its not really anyone other than the OL. If they get better then Dobbs will hook up with the WRs!

I agree that Dobbs has definite limitations as a passer. Which makes it all that more frustrating that they haven't done much scheming to coverup his deficiencies or make things easier on him or the OL.

You mean throwing it down field beyond 15 yards atleast once every 10 snaps might actually keep the defense honest and stop them from crowding the line so we have more room to run and throw slants?

No.....

No way......

What is this strange magic Swain hints off?

Ding ding ding. Winner. Someone gets it. Dobbs behind this year's OL reminds me of Peyton Manning vs Seattle in SB49. Nobody talked about how bad PM was after he got trounced. When the QB has little to no time, even the best suck.
Actually Dobbs is the best kind of QB to have with a porous OL. His improv skills have saved dozens of plays in 3years.

Dobbs really doesn't look all that terrible passing the ball at times. It's not fair to judge our QB if they won't even allow him to throw the ball against other teams. I understand not trusting him against Alabama, etc. But let him go out there and throw 50x against Bowling Green and teams like that. That's where I blame the coaching staff.

Dobb thinks too much IMO. Which usually translates of thinking twice.. which translates to a turnover.

We don't have a QB coach/guru. That's the problem.

Only his improv skills where he's able to scramble out of the pocket.

How many times have scrambled and got sacked? Threw a bonehead INT? Or fumbled?

All this stuff has been played out and is like a broken record. I honestly dont know what all the problems are. Is it Dobbs? Is it the OL? The WRs? Butch? Azzani? Debord? Mahoney? Is it a combination of all of them?

Not many in reality. Dobbs hasnt been one to make many dumb mistakes with the football.

Yes (just a few biggies lately, perhaps as SR first-game jitters, and behind what is on paper the most-experienced OL in 4 years -- odd, but he's gotten the team out of several jams last year, we are 2.0 this year, and things likely should be jelling soon).

I've been saying this all along as to Dobbs passing ability. Over 15 yards it's 50/50 as to whether it will be caught or intercepted, not great odds if you're trying to stretch the field to keep the defense honest and also trying to prevent turnovers which can be game-changers. Yes, the O-line could help him. Also, if Dobbs starts scrambling to run 90% of the time he's going to run to his right--too predictable.

Define many. Overall, no. If it's over 15 yards i still hold my breath--50/50 chance of INT. I'm relieved when it's an overthrow and falls to the ground, ecstatic if a completion.

We can only hope things are coming together.

On many palys it's like there is no line blocking at all. Poor technic, missed assignments, and DL allowed to run roughshot through the gaps. Again, you can blame Dobbs all you want, but tell me a time where he just made a plain bone head throw, when given ample time to get the ball down field to someone wide open. It used to be the OL and the WR's not getting separation. You wanna know why there's no more talk of WR's not getting separation?
BECAUSE DOBBS DOESN'T HAVE TIME TO GET THE BALL OUT 85% OF THE TIME.

The main point was that there are routes our receivers do not even run because Dobbs cannot be trusted to make the throws. Out routes he specifically listed and 2-3 others.

We didn't take a QB in 2014 and Ferguson quit the program. Dobbs handicaps the offense right now because he is limited. The offensive line is well noted and deserves its own thread or 10.

All of the above. O-line has trouble pass protecting. Defenses are scheming to stop the run first and bring pressure. WRs don't get separation. If you will notice, rarely is a WR for us wide open. Mostly when teams fail to pick up Kamara or Hurd out of the backfield. Dobb's accuracy deep is questionable. Most deep passes are jump balls from around midfield on obvious passing downs. Minimizes the damage if intercepted. It's like a punt. We are predictable. Ultimately this all falls back on the coaches. Win or lose, good or bad, this is the type of offense they choose to run.

Dobbs usually is pretty smart and he has had plenty of well thrown balls longer than 15 yards that have not been picked off. Its not just Dobbs. Its the coaches, WRs, OL, scheme and Dobbs. How many times have we seen a WR drop a pass? Fixing just one will likely not fix everything.

Any QB has a 50/50 chance at an INT with a pass over 15 yards. That doesnt help your argument.

Good post. His elusiveness prevented a sack and was a touchdown throw to Kamara against VT as the OL looked like mannequins in a store window!

If Dobbs gives us the best chance to win then next year does not look promising with the other Qbs

But, But, it was only a 5 yd pass.......

I know you went blue but we're talking about his elusiveness behind this OL that seems non-existent. He barely got off a 5 yard pass hows he suppose to go through receiver x, y, and z with no time. This isn't at you Miramar just pointing out the obvious.
