I’ve been thinking through some of this stuff. Everyone is focused on John Currie firing Butch. He could be using this time to hook the next coach and could very well have that guy ready by the time Butch is dismissed. Which would actually be pretty clever seeing as how we would be examining his every move. Instead, the fans are focused on the “fire Butch” movement week to week. There is more to this story than meets the eye. I think he is using this time right now to land his guy. An AD’s legacy is always hinged on a big hire. He’s up to more than we know. Just a thought.

What is possible and most likely are two different things.

It is also possible Currie doesn't have time to fire Butch because he is too busy plotting world domination. I don't think we should defer to that assumption.

You might like us over in the Gruden thread. Logic like this is often welcome (Although it wasn't this morning).

Let's be honest...this situation has been created by Hamilton and Hart. Vol fans don't trust their AD and administration any longer. This is creating all of the negative tweets, posts and articles out there. He is in a bad spot, and hopefully isn't incompetent...but we just don't know.

I don't know if this matches what I posted, but regardless, I agree. I hope you're right. I hope Currie's got a handle on all this; that he's got a bona fide big time HC hooked and ready to move to Knoxville...timing this extravaganza so that signees and recruits will be wowed and not run off; that the fan base will be abuzz with newfound enthusiasm such as Volnation hasn't seen in a long, long time. Yep. I sure hope you're right, OP. I still won't regret tossing my Kentucky tickets and not making the road trip from SC just to watch my favorite sports entity in the world be so embarrassingly humiliated. Let's hope you're right.

Hmm, a man educated and experienced enough to be named AD of a major university may be working behind the scenes in a manner the common fan cannot grasp. Interesting.

Good lord, I hope this is true.

Currie needs to do something other than stand on the field after we lose (and lose and lose) with his “mean mug” on. No one is impressed. Get some results, Mr. AD.

We don't need to grasp behind the scenes. We see Knoxville burning to the ground, right in front of our eyes.

Makes sense that Currie is only focused on getting the next coach. Fire Butch now and he has to work out who and how the remainder of 2017 is managed and negotiate how much everybody will be compensated and what their responsibilities will be. There's not money in the budget to pay market for two head football coaches, so does he have to negotiate more pay for Hoke or Fulmer or whoever? Does OC Scott get fired as well? What about Shoop? Who gets hired, promoted in the interim, reassigned? It's not an automatic process and it would be a huge distraction. Butch is under contract through Feb 2021 to run the football program. If he stops trying to do that he can be fired with cause and lose his buyout. Maybe Currie is brighter than he's being portrayed.

Thats what everyone said the last time we had a coaching search. Dave Hart was working it behind the scenes, but then proceeded to get rejected by every coach in a publicly embarrassing fashion until it came down to Rich Rod and Butch. At the time, the powers that be were apprehensive about hiring a coach who had been at a school only one year after what happened to us with Kiffin, so we hired Butch!.

I’d let the past stay in the past, but I have no doubt that Fulmer would have this Team in a better position and a low tier bowl game. He’s on the payroll, so the only real negative would be if the team rallied around him and then we’d be LSU.

It is obvious that the Administration is embracing mediocrity. It doesn't look like Butch is going anywhere unless he leaves of his own accord.

Fulmer makes $100k or so shaking hands a few hours a week for UT. Head football coaches are making that in a week or two. Phil's not going to take over UT FB for $300/day.
