...but as far as school activity. I say give them and A or give them more money they have earned it.

You don't "earn" an education just because you are an athelete. Sorry, but this makes me sick. If UT doesn't at least try to run a clean program I, along with a lot of other die hard alumni will stop contributing.

Is it clean to use players like horses? They earn the school a lot of money and there should be a football degree that has value in the coaching ranks, High School and up. If they want other forms of education then it should be made so they pass if they show up for class. Bad behavior is bad behavior though. The community cannot have testosterone driven big dudes running wild on the town.

not free passes, but can't they be meaningfully reprimanded without being suspended from a super important game?

If they do not have consequences they will run wild and hurt people. And to your other comment well I meant non wanted sexual advances, etc. But, nice move I think I blushed but can't be sure.:neener2: back at you

as a former insider to the program, i definitely have some thoughts on this. but give me until i've had some sleep to form a coherent train of thought.

You are joking right? A Football Degree?
Anyway my point is that you have to earn grades, they aren't just given out.

Coherent and this board are often not found. But, I am interested to here these thoughts. Now you have created anticipation.

Why not? They put a lot of time on that field. It could be made to be part of a degree program with some classes added on. Like a class on the Mustang-D? Why not? What could the NCAA say?

i'm probably biased though. those football players were like my kids. plus i used to hang out with all sorts of athletes, especially the track people.

ksusha, first of all, welcome to Volnation. There have to be consequenses for breaking the rules, and certain actions warrant suspension from the team. When and if a suspension is necessary it is not the coach who is hurting the team, but the offending player. Furthermore I believe that to not discipline a player, up to and including suspension, is saying that winning a football game is more important than a young man's future. Just my :twocents:
