The top 5 jobs in college football: 100-plus coaches and staff vote, with Bama on top and 8 more earning No. 1 nods

Which clowns voted for Miami or Northwestern as top 5 programs?
Miami and Northwestern staffers.
I'm not sure I'd put Bama at #1 if I was in the hunt for a job. Bammers will turn on you in a second.
T A&M rolled out the checkbook for pay and facilities....and TA&M made a horrible coach (Sumlin) look good

I hear you re: bama. The article attempted to make the case for Kentucky as the #1 job (🤢) since the fans would build you a statue for 8 wins.

Northwestern?? I don't think USC is a Top 10 job these days for a number of reasons. I get Texas with their facilities, fan base and money.

It just depends on what you value. If all you care about is winning games, Alabama and Ohio State will do and provide WHATEVER it takes to make that happen but the pressure to win is immense.

USC and Miami provide rich recruiting grounds and high quality of life if the Beach and coast are your thing.

Want to be a coach at a school with plenty of resources but won't fire you after your first 6-6 season? Places like Kentucky, Iowa St, Kansas St, Purdue, are good landing spots.

It's just so subjective and based on what you value.

North Carolina should be way higher than #17. You play second fiddle to basketball, but that has both positives and negatives (you might not get all the resources you want, but expectations are also lower). You're in a good recruiting area and it is by no means impossible to field a competitive team there. They aren't going to run you off after a couple of 6-win seasons and the potential is there every year to win 8+ games.

Johnny Manziel made a horrible Coach look good, not A&M. Fran and Mike Sherman didn’t like so hot during their time in College Station.

A&M is one of the most out of whack programs in terms of historical success vs. resources. Now, to their fanbase's credit, at least they understand they haven't been a great program historically and aren't delusional about their level of past success, unlike their rivals to the southwest.

However, if you knew nothing about college football and went to College Station, took in a game at Kyle Field, etc., you'd be tempted to think Texas A&M had won 25 national championships.

USC is the right hire away from being an absolute juggernaut.
All they need is a professional Athletic Director. Michigan always wants a Michigan man and USC always wants a USC man. On field results has proven that philosophy sucks.

You obviously haven't visited Texags football or haven't spent much time in Texas. Hell, their administration presented Jimbo with a fake national championship trophy at the introductory press conference. 😂🤣 Historically they were the third (possiblity fourth) in the SWC, fourth in the BIG XII South (Mike Leach owned them) and fourth in the SEC West. Factoring in Oklahoma State, they might have even been fifth in the BIG XII South.

Presenting their new coach with a fake trophy shows how desperate they are for a real one, not that they believe themselves to have been good historically.

A&M has very high expectations and thinks that they should be great, and I actually don't begrudge them for that one bit. That's a big difference than a school like Texas, whose fans think they are more successful historically than Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio St combined.

Not to mention everyone on TexAgs are absolute psychopathic weirdos, but that's neither here nor there lol.

Don't agree.... USC admin and donors are messed up. And really the area around campus isn't exactly a place you want to spend much time. On the West Coast, I'd put Washington ahead of USC.
That's bollocks and you know it lol...The "area" around SC' has never mattered when it came to recruiting, and you're on crack if you think Washington (and yes, Oregon too.) is a better job than USC.

You're delusional. You can never put Washington over USC, and I like the Huskies and hate the Trojans. A good head coach would derail any and all west coast teams. Just like they always have. I expect a huge hire, that why they did it early in the season. Gonna really try to get this one right.

Recent leadership in their athletic department has been a clown show.

That said, USC’s neighborhood historically has not been a problem. If anything else it’s a plus considering who they’re trying to recruit. (See also Dade County in FL.)

Now I do agree with that. Every school has their traditions, but A&M's traditions are just...weird. I still way prefer them to Texas fans though. Smug, "my s**t doesn't stink" pretentiousness is way more obnoxious than just being weird.

The area around campus is the same as when Pete Carroll was bringing in top recruiting classes for years. In no world are Oregon and Washington better jobs than SC.

It didn't seem to bother National Championship coaches John McKay, John Robinson, and Pete Carroll.

Again, as it has been mentioned, they just need to get the right coach this time.

Yup. Recruiting hot bed. Donor base. Location. Name recognition. No other major competition in conference (apart from Oregon trying every couple years to make a run).

Gotta live in South LA though. High crime rate in the surrounding areas. Campus is only "ok" to be considered such a prestigious university.

Did I mention you gotta live in South LA?

11 National Championship teams and 7 Heisman Trophy winners lived in South LA over numerous decades.

Are you referring to coaches? Why do they have to live in South LA just because they coach at SC? I’m pretty sure Pete lived in Manhattan Beach while coaching in Los Angeles.
