“Nick Saban changed me. Three years with him, the best in the world at what he does, and I got to sit there and learn? There’s not a day that goes by that there’s not something I don’t draw in my head, ‘what would coach Saban do?'”

My God, if this is not the man who could dissect Saban's football team and leave it in a million pieces, who is? He is the last person Saban wants to see on the opposite side coaching the Volunteers.

And the brilliant strategists for our football program won't even interview the man but go after a Big 10 guy lock, stock, and barrel who has been at Purdue, what, one year? Give me a break!

We are now offering a guy who has a worse record in the ACC after 5 years than Butch Jones had in the SEC.

This. You know what makes it worse? He was on staff with Kirby Smart and beat Dan Mullen. Probably has an idea of how they think. Now, anyone want to guess who the coaches are in our division that matter? I thought our admin could not get worse after the Schiano disaster. I was wrong and am stunned.

In all fairness look at what Doeren inherited and what he has done since. Constant improvement, and he turned NC State around. Wasn't my first choice, but we could do much much worse. I suggest any TN fan that is going to bash Doeren on this board at least look up his overall results as HC at NC State, and the vast improvements that have been made!

You have to understand what is in UT's mind.

"Who will represent the university well? And who will be easy to manage?'

It is NOT about ... "Who will win the most games and be successful?" It's not. That is not what is motiving Currie or the Admin.

Hit the nail on the head. Its all about perception. Not winning.

At this point, who cares? The only streak I have worried about since this decade of destruction began is the 'never lost 8 games lost in one season' streak that was broken this year. Now, bring on this 5 year experiment and end our misery.

No calls to Tee, Kiffin, Les, Sumlin, Pruitt, etc. have me wondering if these guys are running a dog fighting ring in their backyards or something. No excuse not to at least put out feelers and make the pubic aware.

The reason why Tennessee and other teams haven't pursued Pruitt is quite an anomaly to me.

Seriously what does this AD or Chancellor know about hiring a Football coach?

Can you imagine someone having robotic surgery and the doctor never having any formal training in the procedure, how is that going to turn out.

Here we are making the single MOST important decision in the future of our football program for the next 5 years and we have a couple of people in the administration handling the entire thing, just unreal that this can happen.

We could have hired a professional agency, as a consultant to find the best coach's in the country and get their enterest levels, all the vetting, and then we would not be flying around the county with a suitcase full of money, begging someone to take our money and coming up empty every time.

How many CEO searches are done like this? NONE the administration is such amatures

Yes he did a nice job of a turnaround, but this season NC State was picked by guys like Herbstreit to be a playoff team this season, and several people said they were a top 10 team because they had a DL as good as anyone's, a very good QB, with high quality receivers. Supposedly very good on both sides of the ball. And yet they finished 8-4 and Doeren lost to Muschamp along the way. Who does that remind me of?

Doeren appears a lot like Butch at first glance. Did a nice job of having success at a lower level, then coming to a P5 school and bringing it out of a hole, and then being unable to handle the new expectations. I've read that book before and it doesn't have a happy ending.

Neither the AD or the President of UT are leaders. But since we can not win in the SEC, just drop out and join another conference. I would recommend Big Sky or MAC.

No improvement from season to season besides the 2nd. They wanted to fire the guy at the being of the season and wouldn’t extend his contract yesterday...

Doeren is another Derek Dooley/Butch Jones type hire.

Brohm was a great fit. Doeren makes zero sense.

UT obviously doesn’t care anymore. Might as well go after this guy:
Why not this guy?
SCOTT HIGHSMITH
East Texas Baptist University
Led Division 3 in scoring.
Experience, winning record, fits the mold of who in the world is this guy?
Wait, sorry, he has a winning record so that might invalidate his hire?

Except.... Greg Schiano. Represent the university well?

Whenever the hire is made and it is not Kiffin or Tee, it is up to us to ride the media to ask Currie in the press conference "Do you feel that you made the best possible hire?" When he says yes, we have to make sure the local media (fox sports knoxville, Clay Travis, Rucker, Brice) to make sure they follow up, "Coach X is a better hire than Kiffin or Tee"?

How do you even offer a guy whose last 2 recruiting classes were ranked 51 and 54? SABOTAGE by Currie on the way out?
