'Ass' describes every single live action iteration of DCU movie, sans Nolan and Wonder Woman.I will preface this by saying I am 34 years old but have seen practically every superhero movie released to date. I’m a Marvel guy and absolutely loved it if that means anything. I won’t talk about the other characters because I don’t want to spoil anything. This was the closest connection I have ever had to ANY Superman in a film and by far the most comic book type of superhero movie I’ve seen in a long time. Superman is suppose to be a symbol of hope and James Gunn captures that perfectly. When your back is against the wall and you feel closed into a tiny box with nowhere to go, everyone is against you, he finds a way. He may be an alien to Earth but he is just as human (if not more human) than anyone else. His main priority in life is protecting all the things on Earth and this movie shows that time and time again. Maybe this one isn’t for everyone but everyone at my theater was clapping and cheering. Probably the best fan reactions I’ve seen since Spider-Man: No Way Home, maybe Deadpool & Wolverine to a degree. And I usually go to opening night for the big ones. I didn’t experience that with the previous few Superman films in theater. I’ve always thought Superman was a cool character but every movie until this one has just been meh to me. Easily my favorite film adaptation I’ve seen of Superman and can’t wait to see what this new universe brings.

Recently started watching animated DC movies. They are so well done, def enjoy them. Its reinvigorated my interest in this film (as I'm sure was intended).
I dunno, are there times when a flamboyantly gay person appearing out of nowhere, that I feel an awkward moment as he kisses his boyfriend on screen? Yeah, looking at my three small kids as the questions endlessly come my way. But who cares really ? Take movie for what it is. Entertainment.
It in no way impacts my life. And sure as **** isnt affecting me as a person. If anything i'm glad attitudes are shifting. People need to take better care of one another. There are too many dickheads out there.
If you asked the question of 'could he mean me?' Then answer is a resounding, yes. He def absolutely unequivocally meant you.
Maybe it's because I'm a Superman nerd and just over looked it but anyone who reads my political forum posts knows I'm a 3 time Trump voter. I just didn't see that much politics in the film. While I don’t think the movie is overtly pushing a political message, there are definitely plot points that mirror the real world. If you are the type that views everything through a political lens and lean toward one particular side, you may have your feelings hurt realizing you are on team Luthor.
Comic books have been littered with political issues for several decades. I love when people get in their feelings over stuff like that in these movies. These are just fictional stories and anyone who takes them seriously are hilarious to me.Spoiler Free Initial reaction...
The tone is pitch perfect. All the things you are hearing about hope and optimism etc are present. This Superman is light hearted and maybe a bit corny, but make no mistake, he is different from the way Reeve portrayed him.
If you liked the campiness of the 78 series, the stories of the 90s Animated Series, the friends and family themes of Smallville, the general goodness of the 50s series, or even the action of MoS, you will like this.
If you only like Snyder’s brooding myopic take, and believe that is how Superman should be….you probably aren’t going to like this.

As for comics accuracy? Story wise it pulls heavily from Birthright and For All Seasons.
I think it took more of the spirit of All-Star by pulling from all eras of Superman for this modern take on the mythos.
There are a few things i didn’t like of course. Nothing as egregious as letting Pa die in a tornado though.
The biggest thing I judge a movie on is would I watch again.
This one gets an emphatic YES!
Cool…I watched the 1978 Superman and Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut over the weekend to cleanse my pallette after watching this garbage on Friday. Imo those are still the two definitive Superman movies and Christopher Reeve is still the definitive Superman!
