Here are are some I heard that were head scratchers :

Lewis Riddick: on SC QB “ best player in college football”

Last night Notre Dame-Miami game : notre dame corner referred to as “ best cover corner in college football”. Later a Miami defensive end as “ best defensive end in college football”.

Throwing out those kind of superlatives in first game of season is ridiculous really. Season s barely a few days old. Hype train by PR departments is already off the rails. IMO

I’m sure I missed some other similar quotes. What others did you hear ?

LSU vs Clemson: These 2 QBs may be taken in the top 5 picks of the upcoming draft.
SC vs VT: Sellers may be the 1st pick in the draft.

WOW. You think 3 QBs go in the top 5 picks.
I understand these announcers gotta say something, but how about, “These 2 QBs are really special“ or some kind of generic praise. The opening speeches are pre written so obviously not much time is taken or the folks writing just aren’t that good.

I usually don't pay much attention to broadcasters (have the sound muted about half the time) BUT I too noticed a real uptick in throwing around "best" and "#1 pick" and several other hype words that marred the broadcast. Most of that stuff is hyperbole and sounds silly at best. I do understand the need to fill already sold airtime with something....but it does get out of bounds often.

Sellers started out strong first drive and his play was lackluster until when he had a really good drive toward the end. VT had 2 interceptions that really hurt especially one in the red zone that would have been at least 3 points. Also VTs receivers had a lot of drops that killed drives Cam Seldon had one of those but he came back made a couple good catches. Sellers looked like a All American on 2 drives and the rest of the game he was just so-so IMO.

Funniest one of all was Nico lead Tennessee to the playoffs last year. Of course, Tennessee fans and other know it was Tennessee taking Nico to the playoffs.
