Sunseri got yanked from...

little late for that.
my question is.when does it become Dooleys fault ?

Dooley is responsible for everything that happens on the field.

The Sal hire is Dooley's fault or not, depending upon who you listen to.

Nobody is denying that the defense has been bad and the HC is responsible. Question is, why do you object to Dooley trying to help fix it?

Calling plays.

"Sal Sunseri emphasized his role with Tennessee's defense would be unchanged Saturday when the Vols host Missouri inside Neyland Stadium, but Tennessee's defensive coordinator also acknowledged he would not maintain play-calling responsibilities."

Now explain why you still haven't told anyone where you got the quote from in the original post! I have checked just about every on line video and article and can't find anywhere where his playcalling has been revoked. I call BS! When posting quotes you should post a source.

I finally found it. My apologies to the original poster OuterBanksVol. Should still post a source since so much misinformation is posted on a daily basis.

Real question is, if he can fix it, why has he not done so already?

He already explained this. He's not a defense guy, so he was letting the defense people handle the defense.

It seems clear that he's trying to do what he can to help the team get to 7-5, which is good for everyone. What's the problem?

I fully expect that, in the off-season, he hires someone to run the defense who is competent to do so. He needs a Chavis or someone similar (or better) who he doesn't have to micromanage.

Was Conklin speaking some kind of English in that article that football people understand? If he has a clear mind, it doesn't seem to be translating very well when he speaks. God help us all.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. He must speak in a different language than the rest of us. Regardless, this move looks like it could be the beginning of the end for Sal. Thank God. Good riddance!

I disagree. To me it seems like he was trying to answer the questions without saying "we suck" or "Sunseri doesn't know what he is doing." He's been given a chance to step up some but isn't trying to step on any toes while doing so. That's how I read it.

Let me make sure I understand. This board has yelled for weeks that Sunseri should be fired, and when DD tries to limit his role with the defense, he is accused of throwing him under the bus. Good lord this board is bipolar.

Board is calling for Salvatore "Big Pu__y" Sunseri to be fired.

Dooley doesn't fire him, but instead keeps his overpaid rear-end and then publicly emasculates him.

Board not happy. U no c y?

Sad isn't it. Like another poster said, this is Dooleys attempt to save his job. I really hope it doesn't work.

Well if it doesnt work,it would be like most of the people on this board.

(This is sarcasm pointing toward the fact that most of the posters here dont have jobs,so they have time to critique coach Dooley all day long)

CDD can't win no matter what he attempts to do.

Let CSS call plays and he's hated on.

Don't let CSS keep calling plays and he's hated on.

I agree with other posters that the so-called fans here on VN are bipolar.

I also haven't heard any official announcement saying this is true so I'm still wondering where this came from.

I also don't see this as CDD trying to save his job.

I see it as CDD trying to Win out for his team and especially for the Seniors and to try and move our Defense forward.

Haters will always hate no matter what and that's pathetic.

VFL...GBO!!!

Good post.

Could be seen that way. But I don't think I've ever seen a more deserving speed bump than Sunseri. His results have been awful.
B-b-b-b-b-but Sal's a badazz.....right? How many folks here, this spring and summer, were crowning him the savior of the team...bringing Bamer's defense?

I said then, that they should wait until he has actually proved something on field....and was hazed as a NegaVol.

You do understand that firing him does not prevent him from being "overpaid", don't you?

What in the world were you thinking trying to apply common sense and reason to this board?! C'mon man...there's no room for that here. mumble, mumble..negavol.

I thought he had the opportunity to do that last year. My bad.

Just makes me *sigh* on so many levels. We've got so much talent on the D side, I have ZERO doubt that our problem is lack of quality coaching. I honestly expected some growing pains moving to the 3-4 early in the year, but the fact that our D is getting progressively WORSE speaks volumes.

I support the move, but damn, castrating Sal is a sign of the sad, sad times TN football has fallen to.

The least we'll have to do is make a DC change that has to come even if Dooley is allowed to stay. I think another loss or two and it is goodbye Dooley. If for some reason we were to win the last three games we still need to find a DC it is obvious Sunseri is not the answer ever.

Brilliant strategic move by Dooley.

Absolutely brilliant.

With no one calling the plays, no one can be held responsible.

Cram that in your cram hole Vol fans.

If Dooley can prove with this move that Sal was the problem, that end of the year assessment won't be quite so bad...

Wonder why he waited until we reached the soft part of the schedule to take over the defense? (sarcasm)
