How far do you think the Rebels go in the playoffs?....I've been to all of the games and Curt Phillips seems unstoppable.....Go Rebels:rock:

He seems unstoppable against UET teams. Maryville will be different story Nov 30. Curt Phillips' high school career comes to an end, and the Maryville seniors continue their quest to go undefeated throughout their entire high school tenure.

if red bank does somehow beat Maryville tomorrow night, you have a chance. You have no chance against Maryville's D. It will be like watching Tebow against Auburn.

I haven't seen them play, but according to various writers across the state, Red Bank probably has the best shot to bring down the Red Rebels.

so much for Red Bank giving Maryville fits. I don't see it happening, but Phillips can put his name into not just UET lore, but Tennessee lore with a monumental upset Friday. Curt has the chance to supplant one Steve Spurrier as the greatest player in UET history.

Who's been the best HS team in upper ET this season?
Based on what this posting is about, has it been Sullivan South. I graduated EHS in '66 and remember seeing the ole ball coach play at SHHS in '62. Tennessee was one of the best in the nation years ago and got a ranking in the top 5 in the country.
I haven't kept up on local sports in the Tri-cities latley.
When I went to HS it was the Big 7 (Erwin, Greeneville, SHHS, EHS, Bristol, D-B and Morristown). Some of these schools are now in different conferences and the Big 7 is now the Big 10 and SHSS, D-B, Bristol and Greeneville still play the Cyclones along with Hampton, Happy Valley and Unaka (all Carter County teams).

it has been Sullivan South, although the Hampton Bulldogs have put up quite an argument for that position. SS did lose to Greenville in the regular season, but they made up for it in the playoffs and then some.

Phillips has rewritten a ton of UET records and is even getting his name in the TSSAA books now. an upset tomorrow night can make him the best high school player ever in UET, even over the ole ball coach.

perhaps you've not kept up with your past home, but Phillips has rewritten the record books up here. He definitely has a chance. He has more than a chance.

He never beat his big rival D-B once. There have been plenty of great players other than Steve Spurrier from East Tennessee. Phillips might end up being a career backup at Wisconsin. He's got a ways to go before he outdoes guys like Bobby Dodd.

maybe i should rephrase. He's the best High school player in UET history. I assumed, incorrectly, since we are in the HS forum and we were talking about HS stats, it was a given. It evidently was not. Due to the size differential and talent amongst the teams, I can't accept the DB argument too much. But stats and numbers don't lie, and Phillips is moving in on that territory, has taken parts over, and is looking for more in about 20 hours.

Bobby Dodd was a phenomenal high school player. His excellence was confirmed when he ascended to the college level. The same goes for Steve Spurrier.

Sullivan South has fielded teams that could compete with and defeat D-B in the past. Evidently, even with Curt Phillips, they couldn't do that in the last few years.

I think my school would beat D-B this year, but we didn't play them this year

BTW 21-14 Maryville at the half

DB is still king of NE TN. No way in heck South would have beat DB in 2007 after DB put that 44-0 loss on South in 2006 and holding South to almost negative yards for the entire game after putting 3rd stringers in. You can't argue that one year would make a difference because DB had mercy on South in 2006, it coulda been worse. And Hampton? I mean maybe for their size, but no way they beat many of the bigger schools in NE TN. Curt is the real deal though and the SEC shoulda got in on him a bit earlier.

Back to Curt Phillips. I don't know if he will be considered one of the best HS players in UET or not, but I have seen him play and he is really good. There is a local talk show here and one of the guys on it in the morning is from Wisconsin and he said the word was that Phillips will redshirt his freshman year. Then after that there is a very good chance he could win the starting QB job at Wisconsin and be a 4 year starter due to the style of QB that he is.
